Delegate's to the republican nominat ing convention, which met In this city yesterday, began to arrive about noon on Tuesday and by evening nearly all the delegations were present. The nomination were all by acclama tion, there being but one candidate for each position except in tho case of rep resentative and school superintendent, and in these cases the nomination were made unanimous. The following gentlemen were selected as delegates to the state convention : W. W. Stolwer, of Fossil ; F. M. l'liter, of Matney; J. F, Lucas, of Arlington, and Geo, Ferry, of Lone Rock. Lone Rock is now the nroud nossessor of a physician In the person of Dr. Ln ney, just from Arkansas, who is at pres ent in Portland selecting a large and complete stock of drugs, etc., for bis nusines nere. Kvory ono In this locality seem to be well pleased with the progrees that is being mado with the new road op the Boone hill. If the work Is pushed In the same vigorous manner it will not be many weeks until the people of Lone Rock will have at least oue decent road leading from this town, something tbey have never before enjoyed. FOSSIL. Gardening is the order of the day. The delegates to the Republican coun ty convention left for Condon Tuesday. Mr. E. A. Reed la still very sick, and his daughter, Mrs. Churchill, of Ellens burg, Wash., and bis son Dal, of Arling ton, are with him and doing everything possible for hi comfort, Sam Thompson received a letter last week from Jos. Morrow who is at Skag way. Alaska, saying he was carpenter ing for o per clay, but advise all to stay away from that country, Frank Sankey, Clarence Zachary, Coe Barnard and W. S. Thompson soli their steers last week to Mr. Reynolds, receiv ing t2; and 30 for one, two and three-year-olds respectively. FERRY CANYON. J. A. Richmond, who has been laid on for some time with rheumatism, is able to be around again. Miss Rosa Nelson, daughter of Mrs. J. II. Nelson, has gone to Goldendale, Wash., on a plcusure trip. Jones Bros., late from the Valley, are making their new ranch more than shine. Gilliam countv needs more good men like them, the long ridge between John Day river and Lono Juniper, has plenty ol good land yet to be taken. From Alaska. G. V, Rinchart received a letter a few days ago from hi eon W. N. Rinebart who is in Bkagway, Alaska, from which the Ulouk Is allowed to glean the follow ing facts concerning that country, Mr. Rinehart is In business at Skagway and is doing well, but aay he has no great confidence in the country. The boom is the greatest, he thinks, that has ever been known lu the Northwest. Six large ship were lying in the harbor the day he wrote and 15 other were due within a week. The weather was very mild and spring-like and tho coldest during the winter wn 4 below xero. There are about 10,000 people In Skagway and the same In Dyea. There has only been 30 death In the town since it was started six month ago. He thinks there la likely to be great euflering In that coun try next fall and winter. Win, Mattock, formerly of Pendldton, is Mr. Rinehart' unal 11089 partner, and two other Mattock boys, Geo. Greenwood and brother and John Davidson are also there.
