Duthle'a barn, with, about 30 tons of hay and a lot of fanning implements therein was burned to the gorund. Loss about $500, no insurance. The cause of the fire is 110 donbt of incendiary origin, as track were found leading to and from the barn. Any man who will deliberate ly destroy a person' property in such a manner ought to be hung. Rev. Father Conrardy, who la well known in tills, and Umatilla, counties and who left for Hawaii about ten years ago to help the lepers in the leper colony, returned to Condon last week and is at the Condon hotel. He was taken sud denly 111 last Sunday morning with sum mer complaint, but Dr. Hogan, who is waiting on him, informs ns that be I recovering slowly and thinks he will be out again in a few days. The Ice-cream social and dance at the Armory hall last Friday night was a success both financially and socially. There were a great deal more people in attendance than was expected, and if the ice had held out the ladies would have realized quite a large sum from ice cream. The proceeds of the social and dance together amounted to $39, of which sum $8 was deducted for expenses, leaving $31 clear for the Catholic church. The ladies wish to thank their roanv friends through the Oloiik for their kind assistance in helping a worthy cause. We fully realize our mis fortune in being deaf, and we venture to say that there is not a deaf-mute in the 0011 n try that could edit a newspaper any better than we can, and we think the complimentary articles above quoted are just and proper. Mr Bharrard's trip to the mountains did not prove very beneficial to him, for since his return be and his entire family a well have been sick. Mrs Uager's health has improved since he went to the hospital in Portland, and she expects to return to Arlington in a low days, which fact we are pleaaed to announce, 1 Mr F A Bnow of Portland is visiting ber sister, Mrs C 8 Werner, at this place. Her husband was formerly in business here, but is now with the wholesale house of Lang & Co., of Portland. Kd Williams of Croy, had his left arm broken this week while working around Geo Karhart's threshing machine near Olex. He got his hand caught in the belt in some way with the result above stated, , Mr W A Rodkey, formerly a business man of this place, died in Portland the 20th Inst. Mr Rodkey leaves a wife well provided for, a he was a prominent member of the A O U W Lodge of this place, also a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was well known in this section and leaves a host of friends. Rock Creek Items. Peaches and plum on the creek are ripe. Miss Fannie Flett returned home 8dn day from a brief visit in Morrow county Mattie Jennings will start soon for Monmouth to attend the State Normal School. Mr Wrn Thompson who ha been under trertment for ber eyes, is some what better. Alex Baird of Fossil passed through Wolf hollow last week with a bunch of cattle which he will ship to Chicago. 0 S Farnswortb of lleppner, bought W G Flett's hay and range this week. There was 89 tons of bay, which brought $7 per ton. Lone Rock Rumblings. Jack Andrews has bought Mr Bal dings house in Lone Rock and will open a restaurant in the near future. Morgan Ward killed 16 grouse one day last week, and Bob Johnson and Wm Colwell came in with 28 to their credit. Hon J R Ralston will soon bnild store at this place and stock it with goods. His son Torn will be a partner in the business. The races last Thursday and Friday parsed off quietly. Geo Karhart's horse won the saddle boreo race, uJ Frank Crawford' horse won in the free for all race. Several hundred dollar changed hands during the races. Mayville M titterings. He will also hut np pome fire-proof chimneys in this neighborhood. Mr Ella Rinehart gave a party at her new residence Saturday evening. About 30 of her friends were present and en joyed themselves immensely. Miss Jennie Miller, who has just re turned from a visit to Clem, will visit friends in this vicinity for a few week before leaving for her home in Portland. That Delicious Ice-Cream ! Ice-cream and rake will be on sale at the Condon hotel Sunday afternoon and evening at 2fi cents a round, and those people who were kicking about the ice melting away before) they could eef a taste of the ice-cream at the Armory hall last Friday night, can bave a chance to1 get even Sunday.
