Everybody should attend the free con cert at the Armory Hall this (Friday; evening. Messrs. Jacobsen and Sayles, of the Jacobsen Book h Music Co., of The Dalle, and who, by the way, have a car-load of gome of the finest pianos and organs ever seen in this country on display at the hall, have agreed to assist n the musical programme, and the music-loving people of Condon and vi cinity will be treated to some of the finest tpnsic they ever had the pleasure of hearing in Condon. Ice cream and cake will be served by the ladies, which will only cost 15 cents, mid 60 cent a number for the dance which will he given after the concert. As wag stated in thete columns last week, the proceeds will be nsed for the benefit of the Catholic church, and It is hoped the citizens of Condon will all come out and help a worthy cause. It seems too bad that the county pris oners are compelled to stay inside all the time this fine weather. We think tliey could be given a little work in the yard watering the trees and improving the grounds around the court house etc. Most any man had rather have a little work outside than be kept In solitary confinement for two or three months. , Mr. E. The instruments on display at the Armory ball are certainly dandies. Jacobsen of the Jacobsen Book & Music Co., of The Dalles, who has a branch store at the Armory hall in Condon, is having about the hardest time of any of us trying to get hislmmenso stock of pianos and organs from Arlington. Although he 1 offering 60 cts. per 100 lb, freight he cannot gut them here fast enough to supply the want of his many patrons in this section. 1 lie Olobh was unahle to get an ac curate account of the lite in Arlington on the 10th inst., and we published an account that we got from a paswnaer who arrived in Condon on the stage the next day after the fire, and this week we received a full account of the fire from the Ulohk's special correspondent at Arlington, but the letter did not reach ns In time for publication tbia '-week hut it will appear in these columns nex issue. The fruit is ripening fast in this sec tion. Hay is selling in this section for $4.50 and ffl a ton. The horses are dying off fast around here for the want of grass. Wheat is being threshed east of here, and is averaging 25 bushels to the acre. John Flelt Is recovering from a brief spell of sickness, and will soon be out again. Sheepmen in this section will fair hard this fall and winter unless it rains pretty soon. Win Flett was thrown from a wild bronco last Mondav. skinning him up pretty badly but no bones broken. Some of our cattlemen are herding their cattle in the vicinity of Long Creek in order to keop them from starving to death. Dr. J. H. Fraxer, dentist, will leave Condon for the Valley about Sept. 1st., and all those desiring his services will do him, as woll aa themselves a favor by calling at hia office at once and make arrangements In regard to their work. Cash preferred, but owing to the scarcity of money at the present time among the farmers, he is willing to take a few good horses at a reasonable figure. A young lady of Condon, while out walking with a gentleman, asked him whet he thought she would weigh. After thinking a while he replied that he could not tell unless he could "lift" her. The young lady made no objec tions. He placed his arm around her Blender waist and raised her from the ground, after which he guessed she would weigh about 125 pounds. She looked at him a moment and then in a voice sweet and low said : "I think you bad better guess again." E. E. Martin, deputy county clerk of Clackamas county, has been arrested for embexslement of funds belonging to a Denver loan association, and has ac knowledged to having sold "raised" coun ty warrants. Martin is a prominent member of the Y. M. C. A., but had a "mania" for money. His wife was run ning a millinery store that was not a paying investment and he "blowed in" all the money entrusted to him to keep the store going.
