The mid news of the death of Mrs. Clnrence Shurte nd her two children rvM'hed Condon Tuesday morning. It 18 rcpoJtted that a lamp exploded quite 1hU in the evening after the family had retired to the night, and Mr. Shurte ran for the small hose to quench the . fire.' Mrs. Shtme's first thought wa9 of their two email children, and, pntting a qui It over her head to protect her face from the heat, she rushed into the bed room where the children were sleeping and did nofi come out again, and her husband called' to her but received.no answer. By this time the fire company was on band and, on learning that Mrs. Shnrte and the two children were inside, nhed in to rescue thepi. They fonnd Mm. Shnrte lying on the floor dead; she had become blinded by the smoke and could not find her way out of the house. The firemen took Mrs. Shurte and the two children outside and it was fonnd that the children were also dead. There was no blaze in the room where tbey were found, they had suffocated form the euiofce which had filled the room. Miss French, a lady who was sleeping np stairs, managed to escape by drop ping from the balcony. Mr. Clarence Shurte, bnsband of tbe unfortunate woman, is - well known in Gilliam county, and has been the head business manager and book keeper in J. W. ISuiith'-i store at Arlington for the past ten years, end his many friends in Condon feel the deepest epmpathy for him in the loss of bia beloved wife and ebildred. To Whom It May Concern. I will make one delivery of bucks at Con don on-the 18th of October and tbe re mainder at Lone Hock on the 25th of October, 18P7. I will charge one dollar per bead for all bucks placed in my care. He reports the range for stock very scarce in his section of the country. C V Lord, of Lord 4 Co., started for his old home in Columbus, Ohio, to at tend the bed-side of his father, who was taken very sick within the past few days. We are advised that W O Zeiglar, for merly P M at this place, is now in Eu gene, Or., running a hotel and doing a good business, of which we are glad to hear. , J M Johns went over to Washington last week to be gone a few days. Dur ing his absence Misses Hal hurt and Knell will attend the wants of the poet uflke, W A Maxwell and family have gone over to Goldendale to visit old friends, from there they will go out to Trout lake and stay a few weeks. We trust tbey will have an enjoyable time. Mrs D H Gager went to Portland this week and will stay at tbe hospital there until her health will permit her to re- torn to Arlington. We trust, b owever, she will be benefited by the change and will soon be with tis again. Frank Patterson returned from a trip np in Manitoba this week, which place he has been with a car-load of horses. Tie reports having had a very good time, but says that no one will get rich ship ping borses unless prices look up. A WSharrard and family accompanied by Miss Ada Bedford and Wilford Cecil and family, started last week for a two weens- outing jn tne mountains near Heppner. If the thermometer registers 102 degrees in the shade here many more times this summer we will wish we were with them. Married, on Wednesday evening, Ang 4th, at tbe home of the brides parents in this city, Mr Frank Robinson and Miss Pearl Wood, Rev Henry Barnhart officating. Only the relativss and a few invited guests witnessed the ceremony, which was very beautiful. The bride and gmorn are held in the highest ee- tem by all who know them, and ahoete of friends tender congratulations. Tbe happy yonng couple left next morning to spend their honev moon at the coast for several weeks, after which they will return to Arlington to permanently reside. To The Public.
