The people are the best jndges. Lone Rock Rumblings. Oth o Ward has gone to Montana on a sheep-shearing expedition. : Lewi Miller has bought the Mote place, formerly owned by Mr Vickers, and will use it as a cattle range. Hon Joe Ralston and Andy Sprowls traded town residences here this week, Mr Ralston paying some "boot." Rev McElroy. from the state of Wash ington, preached a very interesting ser uon to a large audience here Sunday. Joe Robinson can tell you how bis nose got skinned at Heppner last week. We wish tbem success. A first-class photographer doesn't visit Lme Rock every day. But Clay Fohom wili have his gallery in that town from June 6th until the 16th. Everybody come. Charley Stevens and family were in tiia valley a' few days ago looking for a . house to rent for the bu rawer, having old out his interest in the Stevens ranch to bis brother Frank. : A great many restless people are just now traveling through the country, some to the valley, others to' Eastern Wash ington. It seems strange that they will pass through a much better country than either place and not stop. "A rolling stone gathers no moss." The news of the death of Claude Hen shaw was a great shock to our people. He spent his boyhood days here, where he was born, and was a great favorite with alt who knew him. The family has the'.lierrtfelt sympathy of all our people in their terrible bereavement. Several of oar people.attended the funeral. -Olex Explosions. Mrs G W Chamberlain w very sick. Charley Weatherford took in the races at Heppner last week.. Rev Peck of Milton, and relative of W E Reed, was in Olex last week. Frank Stricklin started for the valley Satorday with a band of horses. . TC Mobley's work horses have strayed, off and he bas been looking for tbem for "several days. J W McKinney returned from Baker City last Saturday and reports much bet ter times there than here. ' Mrs Wm Ralston - arrived -in Albany last Wednesday from fivrou Hot Springs, Cal.. much improved in health. ' W W Weatherford started for the tuts last week to -look ont a camping place for his family for the hot summer months. . This is the last week of Miss Schooip's school and slie is training her pupils for a Hue exhibition to be given Friday af ternoon. . Charley Martin bass force of men cut ting his hay, the vield of whiab is very good. The first crop of alfalfa on the creek bal been cut already. ' The crop prospect seems to be in the balance just now and the next ten days will decide its fate. - Rain is badly need ed, without which crops will suffer. . At W P -Bole's horse sale at Grant Wade's place last week the , horses, har ming and wagons went ' for a song and Clarenee Shurte sang most of the songs.
