THE CONDON GLOBE. FRIDAY. MAY 21. 1897. THE OFFICIAL PAPER OF GILLIAM COUNTY. OREGON. Olex Explosions. Guy Boyd slipped in Hint made aeliort visit at J W Phillips last week. The boys are all oat gathering cattle preparatory fur delivery on tho 23d Hint. Fred Hanna and Tohey kileduver 1200 squirrels last week when finishing up plowing. We had a delightful rain ou the creek Sunday, but not as heavy as further oath in the couuty. There was quite a large attendance at Sunday school at Olex last Sunday. Sunday school every Sunday at 10:30 p in. The Rock creek dams have all got to be raised, aa the creek is falling so rap idly the irrigation ditches are about all dry. The diseased band of horses near Olex were dip,ied last week. Souie 23 were hot, nhich is really the most effective way to cure then:. A piuk ice cream sociable will be held in the Olex church on Friday evening of next week. All are invited to come out and have a good time. J A Cm in is putting in fine new dam at his mill and will soon be better than ever prepared to furnish his many customers with firstclass flour. Earn Taylor has resigned his position as foreman for Win Phillips and accept ed a position with Chas Martin. John Randall is filling the vacancy at Phil lips. "Doctor" Scoggins is erecting a new blacksmith shop in Olex, and ere long a whistle will tell our people what time to get up in the morning, instead of Ayer's almanac. Wester & Dodson started to the valley last week with a band of horses to sell. Frank Stricklin is preparing to start in a few.days with some horses, also for the valley. Grasshoppers are thicker than hops and are jeopardizing (a good word) the crops around Olex. We are pained to use the language, but there are actually enough of them to ''damn" the creek. Another car of Peacock flour arrived at Olex last week, which shows the peo ple have not quit eating, nor do they propose to, for reports from all directions around Olex say the crop prospect is fine. We are sorry to learn that the Moody bank of The Dalles closed. People of Uilliam county had better stay with Gilliam county's bank and help build upborne institutions and business. If they get caught at home it is not so bad as away, for then they have no friends in either place. Olex has been deluged with cattle buyers and drummers the past week. Messrs Cameron and Stubblefield of Walla Walla we understand have pur chased cattle of T C Mobley, Chas Mar tin, Grant Wade, T Geirget and C M Walker, they received the 18th inst. The way they are being gobbled up htre tht re will soon be no cattle left even for seed. Lone Rock Rumblings. George Perry marked 80 per cent in crease of his lambs. , There will be an immense crop of all kinds of fruit up here this season. A county road machine from Fossil was headed this way last week, but has not shown op yet. R M Johnson marked 100 per cent of his lambs, which is as good as anyone up here has done. J W Blake delivered 7000 head of sheep here this week 3000 wethers to Harry Clay and 4000 ewes to other parties. -inch of rain fell here Sunday, doing much good to the crops, which are grow ing so fast that one can almost hear it. There were several small waterspouts along the mountains last Sunday, calm ing streams and grass to come up with a jump. A Heppner shearing crew is fleecing the sheep in this section at a rapid rate. The sheep are lucky if they get off with a whole skin. Charley Frazer's team ran off the other day, causing a "compound fracture" of bis wagon-tongue and scaring Charley so that none his clothes will fit him. Wra Matlock received 225 head of cat tle here last week, to be shipped from Arlington to Wyoming. Mr. Matlock will ship abont 1000 head from Arling ton this week. Fishing season is once more upon us and the fish liar is again abroad in the land worse than ever. Billy Colwell caased quite a commotion among the trout the other duy. He fell in. Montana has 3,000,000 head of sheep that yield an average of 27 lbs of wool per head, gays' the Arlington "paper. A peculiar feature about this is that there is no truth in it. The printer's foot must have slipped a few notches. George Shields, a former resident oi this place, moved back again last week with his family from the Willamette val ley. - He says a man can rosku a living here easier than anywhere in the world and that this is the best country he ever saw or expects to see. Twenty men passed through here the other day on their way to Prineville to receive 60,000 head of sheep, which they will drive East. About the same num ber has been bought in this and Morrow counties to go over the trail. The price fid was $1 60 and 2 per bead. Look your machines over and tell Kliiirtu llr,.a rolir troubles. Tllt'V will I save yon money on extras of till kimU. The Wasco Warehouse Co. has wool sacks, tierce twine and sack twine for sale at Arlington. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION.
