During the last couple of months the excitement of election caused Bort of a stagnation in business matters, which was almost snowed -tinder by politics. Now that the contest is over, let us all get down to business again. Let bygones be bygones, and prepare for the har vesting of the largest syid beet crops this country hae ever had. We a e all one people, whose principal ob ject ought to be forhe general ad vancement aud upbuilding of our county and country generally. Do not get selfish and fret because your neighbor does not think the same as you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter what that opinion is. It is a free coun try and the conditions here are quite different from those in Russia, Arlington Items. The river is rising rapidly. Rev. Green and bis bride are in onr midst. W. R. Baker of Blalock, was in town -on Tuesday. ; 4 ' Mrs. A. C. Hawson has returned from Jher Walla Walla visit. Judge Bennett and E. B. Dufur spoke here laat Thursday night. Rt-vs. Walbridge, Motor and Dapgett and families are at Wasco attending a district conference. M. J. Canty has been doing a good - business selling saddles and names during the past month. Onr citiaens are preparing to have a grand celebration here on the 4th. Over $200 has already been subscribed and still the good work goes on. Elder Moore babtised three persons, Mr. and Mrs. Seale and Mrs.. , Roes Beardsley last Sunday at this place. The exercises were witnessed by a large -concourse of people. : ; v The Woodmen of the World will un veil the monntnent to their deceased brother, Wesley From, next Snnday. Exercises will begin at 2:30 p. in. All are invited to attend.. Election passed off very quietly here. Party lines seemed to be forgotten and men who claimed to be ardent republi can were shouting and voting for dem ocrats, much to the delight of the latter. Dan Thomas and Miss Minnie Ward were united in marriage last Sunday. The ceremony took place at the resi dence of the bride's parents in Klickitat -county, Wash. - Elder Motor officiated. Rollo, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Wood bad the misfortune to fall from a clothes line last Monday, snstaining a fracture cf the left arm. The fracture was reduc ed by Dr. Irvine, and the little fellow is getting along nicely. A gloom was cast over this entire com .inunity Tuesday afternoon by the death of Lncien Parker.. He wasstricken with appendicitis on Thursday of last week and last Snnday Drs. Howard of Fossil and Geisendorferof this place performed a surgical operation upon him bat be did not rally and continued to grow worse ontil death relieved him. Rye will soon be ready to cut for hay. . Born, on Friday morning, May 29th, to the wife of P. L. Ham, a daughter. Mother and child doing well. Perry is feeling better and we hope he will pull through. Sheepshearing is in full blast here.' Sheep are shearing well and turning off a fine qnality of wool, but a the price of wool has gone populist we don't know how the sheepmen will come out. Cattle Taken Up.
