Lane' fine house on Beecher Flat burned Saturday, the fire having orinlnated from a defective fine. It I a heavy loss to them, as we understand there wa no Insurance on any of the property. The newspaper of Oregon are urging Gov. Lord to call an extra aession of the legislature this winter, for the purpose of reducing the salaries of officials throughout, the state to about one-half what they are at present, to take effect next June. They claim thia ia being done at the earnest solicitation of the lux payers, who are groaning under the enormoua burden of taxation. Mr. Andrew Palmer, who had been stopping at the home of hi daughter, Mr. Dan Cnmeron, on Shuttler Flat al nee last summer, most of which time he was confined to bed with aickness, returned home Saturday to Ajnx. New was received here today (14th) of the death of Hon. George 11. Thomp ton, which occurred at (Hpokane, Wash., on Monday, Jan. 13th. The remains are expected here tonight and the funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 p. in., ei ther from the residence of Hon. J. B. Condon or from the Cong, church. Mr. Thompson was for many years one of the most highly respected citisen of The Dallea, and serve! Wasco county In the capacity of conntv clerk for six veara, from 1882 to 1888. He waa born in Cali fornia ahont 40 years ago, and during his entire life has'so conducted hiine!f a to merit the esteem and respect of his (.How man. On Decemlier 27, 188!, Mr. Thompson waa married to Mips Emma Condon ol The Dalles, and the result of thia marriage was one son, who is now 12 years of age. Mr. Thompson had Iweri ah invalid for some time, and hia death, though not unexpected, is mourn- ed bv a lame circle of intimate friends, not only in tlii city, but throughout the conntv. The deceased was a brother of W. S. Thompson of Fossil and was well known at tonsil, where he formerly conducted mercantile store, at the location now owned by Sieiwer, Carpenter & Co. Rev. Bramblet preached here last Sunday in the forenoon, and in the afternoon he departed for Condon to as sist Rev. Drake in a revival meeting. If the Rev. gentleuiau preaches in bis accustomed forcible manner be will inaice the fire and smoke fly. The weather is cold and snowy again. Pome of the farmer of this place and Dry Fork had been plowing, just as if they thought winter was over, but most of the older inhabitants think the first of April is a much safer time to prophy sy on the winters of Eastern Oregon. Mobley was called to the bedside of her sick mother in Arlington Sunday. A snrprise party was tendered Mr. and Mrs. Geo. ilannaat their home Wednes day evening. L. R. Fairchlld, a shoe drummer of St, Louis, passed through here Inst week on his way to the interior country. Professor Mose Kerby will try to en tertain the people of Bunker Hill with his performances Wednesday evening. There is some- talk of a comedy com pany being organized at Olex, to give a series of plays in the interior country during the months of Feb. and March.
