Nearly all the sheepmen who told
their wool have received the cash for it,

they usually had to wait six mouths for
their money. Now they can pay their
help and pay cash for their supplies,
which helps the merchants and conse
quently helps the whole county to a
certain extent.

A man over in Lone Rock went to

mistake fixed her up a nice mash in a
box of sawdust instead of bran. The
cow merely supposed that bard times
had come and they were all going to
economize so the meekly ate her supper
and the man never discovered his mis
take until the next morning when be
milked the cow and got half a gallon of
turpentine.

A young woman at Astoria whose
husband had been miming five days,
hearing that the body of a man had
been found in the river, at once decided
that it was that of her spouse. She im
mediately went to town ami without
troubling herself to identify the remains, !
spent f 16 buying crape and material for
a mourning dross. When she reached
home she found her husband making a
pot of tea at the kitchen fire.
The Scio, Linn county. Press says:
"Some days ago E. P. Weir and son,
"Chub" came in from Gilliam county
via W. V. A C. M. wogon road. They
report quite a rough trip, having to bass
over ten or twelve miles of snow. It
snowed upon them the whole of one day
at they came over. On Wednesday they
and A. J. Shelton started with a large
bunch of young cattle for tho home of
Mr. Weir, and near whom A. J. owns a
large ranch, and where they propose to
engage In the cattle business extensively.
John Riesinger, a bright young Aus
trian, who has been going to school in
this country for the last five years and
who has just graduated In the Portland
Business College, came up from Portland
this week and expects to stay at Condon
the next two months. His health Is not
very good and a physician advised him to
come to our high and healthful climate
for a change. We understand his par
ents In Austria are very wealthy, and
that they desire to start him up in bus
iness in America. He is a guest at
Maddock'a hotel,
A good old Methodist lady attending
services in an Episcopal church At The
Dalloa recently became happy under the
preaching of the word and ejaculated
"Glory I" She was admonished to keep
quiet by two of tho brethren and nod
ded assent, but soon becoming .forgetful
responded "Hallelujah 1" The brethren
again called her attention to the annoy
ance and told her that if she did not
keep quiet they would be compelled to
remove her. The sermon proceeded and
the old lady became very happy and
forgetful of her surroundings shouted out
"Glory to God I" This was too much for
the brethren and they tried to lead her
out; but she refused to walk, so they
carried her. On the way (he naid : "I
am honored above my Miiter, for while
be was earned by an ass, I am carried
ly two."

The M. V. Harrison place, the most
beautiful residence property in Hood
River, which cost three years ago about
$7,000, was sold by the sheriff last week
to A. S. Blowers for 2830.
E. O. Tobey and wife returned from
the Willamette valley last week. They
had been visiting there for some time,
after Mr. Tobey was excused from fur
ther atteudauce in the U. S. court as a
juror.
Atty. S. A. D. Gurley will make a trip
to GilliAm'a capital the first of the week
on business before the county court and
to lie present at the referee divorce cute

for hearing Monday before L. W. Dar
