No Substitutes For Royal Baking Powder. The "Royal" is shown by all tests, official, scientificand prac tical, stronger, purer, and better in every way than all other Baking Powders. Its superiority is privately acknowledged by other manufac turers, and well known by all dealers, v If some grocers try to sell another baking powder in place of the " Royal," it is because of the greater profit This of itself is good evidence of the superiority of the "Royal." To give greater profit the other must be a lower cost powder, and to cost less it must be made with cheaper and inferior materials, and thus, though selling for the same, give less value to the consumer. LOOK with suspicion upon every attempt to palm off upon you any baking powder in place oi the " Royal." There is no substitute for the Royal." The nrol'essor is lecturing before an intelli gent class of medical students. lie is describing the human body, its defects and the danger by which it is surrounded. In order to illustrate it he has fluids from the human body, which he it sub jecting to chemical tests. "Gentlemen," he Baid, "I have de scribed to you the appearance of the human fluia in a diseased state j I will now show you bow the name fluid ap peal in a healthy state," and he sub lected his own to the test. As he held it up to the light for a moment, his hand trembled, he caught bis breath, he paled and exclaimed : "Gentlemen, I h.ve just made a most horrible discovery : I my sell have Bright's disease of the kidneys." In less than one year lie was ueaa. The above dramatic arul strictly true Incident shows the terrible danger and mysterious nature ol this modern disease, which may well be called the demon ot the present century. It steals into the system like a thief, manifests its presence by the commonest, symptoms anu las tens itself upon the "system before the victim is aware. It is nearly as heredi tary as consumption, quite as common and fully as fatal. Entire families, in heriting it from their ancestors, have died, yet none oi the number knew or realized the mysterious power which was removing them. Hundreds of people die daily by what is called heart disease, apoplexy, paralysis, spinal complaint, rheumatism, pneumonia and other com mon diseases, when in reality .it is Bright s disease ot the kidneys. Ihese are solemn facts, but all the more serious because of their solemnity. There has never been but one remedy known for the cure of Bright's disease, or even for its relief, and that remedy has become the most popular of any pre paration known to tne worm. it is Warner's Safe Cure. It has taken men, and women, too, who were in the lowest stages and restored tnem to pertect health and strength. It will invaribly check the first stages of this terrible dis ease, if taken in time. It is indorsed by physicians, approved Dy scientists and useJ by the best people in the laud. It is a scientific preparation and owes its popularity wholly to its power. It can fw nrnenred of anv reliable dealer, hut great care should be exercised to secure the genuine and not permit any un scrupulous dealer to sell anything in its place. . Guv Min, ft Chinaman, in a Bjieech at tan Francisco, expressed some surprise at what ho considered the inconsistency of "sending milliona of dollars to China to prepare her peo ple for the kingdom of heaven, and re fusing them a home in the United States." Yes. it does look a little queer, doesu t it? There is a great deal of difference between the Chinese stories and those that appear iu our novels and magazines. There is very little love in the average Chinese noveL The hero is a fellow who made his money in America by washing clothes, while the heroine is a girl who wants revenge because the villain killed her cat. Much has been written about the barbaritv of the Chinese iu bandaging the feet of the female babies. It seems now that there is reason m this appar ently senseless cruelty. It is done to prevent them from spending half thehf time on snopping tours wnen tney crow older. And yet the Chinese are called uncivilized. The Chinese have oueer ways of punishing frauds. For robbing a ped dler the culprit is put in a mortar and tired asramst a stoue wall. Whether this cured bim of his propensities wa have not yet learned ; we should not wonder, however, if it had. Texai Sif tings. No Kiaalng Iu Japan. Young Japanese girls are as naturfl made them, and very sweet they are, too, in their quaint dresses showing the plump chest and rounded arms. Pages could be writteu about theil charms. What dear, dainty, little dolls they arel Such white teeth, rosy lips and coy smiles I Who shall de scribe them? and what next? A kiss, perhaps? Not over here. Oh, never 1 They never do. They don't know how, actually don't know how, and even peasant girls are closely guarded. Fancy a young man iu cottou ki mono and wooden clogs stealing a chance to walk with his best girl un der the blooming cherry trees, ex plaining the constellations and quot ing sentimental poetry, telling her that he "hung upon her eyelids' that "her voice was liko a temple gong;" in fact, that he loved but her alone, and then making her several formal bows at the door of her father's straw thatched hut as they parted in the moonlight Can any American lovef stretch his imagination enough to be lieve in a sweetheart not kissing those pretty lips, paint and all, by a sort of "natural selection f 'Tisa melancholy fact, but a Japan ese has no such impulse. No lover courts his mistress with "sweetest per suasive kisses." No mother kisses lief baby as she cuddles it against her bosom. Cor. Home tuoen. The Bcallty or Life. Or- ville fewey. An Automatic Babbit. B. II. Worrall, proprietor of Queen 'i Park, Morley, has invented an auto matic "rabbit," which, it is said, meeU almost all the requirements of the sport of coursing. It fits in a socket attached to an endless wire running in gutters below ground, only a narrow slot showing on the surface. The contrivance is worked by machinery erected in a small tower. The motive power is a heavy stone weighing about half a ton, working Hke a clock weight, the speed at which the "rab bit" travels being controlled by a man at a crank handle. The gutters are laid diamond shape, and tbe length of the course is about 200 yards, the "rabbit" doubling twelve times on the journey, the angles being very acute. In case the dogs are unable to capture the "rabbit" before the whole ground has been traversed the quarry runs into a box, an inclined plane in which lifts it out of the socket, the dogs los ing it. What should he call the com' inc citv bv the lake and snrincs? Ft nallv he chose lake something or other a long compound but the postolllce authorities would not have it. They wrote Mr. Heald that one word was enough and sent him a list to choose from. He took Elsinore, and a few davs afterward announced the fact to old Senor Machado. The aged don was for a moment nonplused. "El Senor," he said, "which senor do you mean, yourself or myself?" "Your self, of course," replied the diplomatic lleald.
