G., held at The Dalles Tuesday, resulted in a victory for Major Lucas. v Only two persons were placed in nom ination, Major Lucas of Condon, and LtVot. Col. Thompson of The Dalles. The vote Btuod as follows: For Lucas A Co. 1 ; C Co. 3 j E Co. 3 ; r Co. 2; GCo. 2; I Co. 3; total 14. For Thompson A Co. 2; BCo. 3; D Co. 3 ; total 8. . The vote of K Co., of La Grande did ttot reach there in time, but it was in favor of Maj. Lucas. The representa tives from Baker City, Condon, Fossil and Joseph did not attend but sent in their votes. Democratic Stat Convention. We have room only to give the portion of the proceedings that will interest our leaders most; For supreme judge, A. 8. Bennett; for Att'y general, Geo. E. Chamberlain; for member of congress, 2d district, Jas, M. Slater; for circuit judge, 7th judicial district, W- L. Bradshaw ; for- prosecut ing attorney, 7th judicial district, A. H. Four Keeley graduates took their de parture this week for homes that will be made glad by their rescue from a life of disease and degradation. Three of them are young men gifted with fine abilities and education, besides exceptional op portunities to enter and adorn positions of usefulness and respectability. It was a source of much pleasure to witness their joy, courage and cheerfulness as thev found taemselves free from a blighted eurse. Forest Grove Times. Lone Rock Rumblings. Bob Johnson went over to his lambing eamp a day or two ago, loaded with lots of "inucamuc" and a big guuny sack in which to pack weak lambs. Rev. Mulligan and wife came over Friday and ' returned home Monday. While here, Mrs. Mulligan organized a W omens' Foreign Mission. Society. After Sunday school and missionary concert Sunday evening, she delivered one of the finest lectures on Foreign Missions that our people have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Cowboy. Arlington Antonatlons. Senator Chas. Hilton was in town Monday. Work on Main street extension is pro gressing rapidly, and will soon be ojien to traffic. The Arlington Fire Dep't will give a ball the coming Friday night in Rod key's hall. R. N. Harrison has opened a new gro cery store in the building lately occu pied by D. A. Vance & Co. Confidence Lodge K. of P. is making rapid progress. Several initiations were made at the last meeting, and more, are expected to join shortly Cattle are in great demand just now. Kalaton Bros, want to buy 2000 head of hcxf cattle, and will pay good prices for the right kind of walking beef. Two Sisters of Charity were in town tawsday, soliciting subscriptions with which to build a home for destitute girls and women-, in East Portland, Sheepmen and wheat-raisers are jubi lant over the prospects, which were never brighter. The former report a very large per cent of larubs, and the lat ter say the grain is coming up splendidly- 'Rah for Gilliam ! Somebody here has decided to use strychni ne with a view to diminishing eur population of cats and dogs, and by the visible signs Sunday night, the re sult must have surprised their most san guine expectations, . .
