Conductor Frank Allison, of the
Southern Pacific, is .suffering a
nervous breakdown, and has gone to
the hospital for treatment.

Ray Emmott has purchased the
fine herd of Holsteins from W. W.
Williams, who is retiring from the
cattle business, on account of the
labor situation.
While mending the battery in his
machine the sulnhuric acid exploded
and burned the face of Irwin Sahnow,
very badly. It is feared he may
lose his eye sight.
The following marriage licenses
were issued the past week: Harry W.
Finch and Buth E.. Bates; Edward
Rife Lilly and Irene Sellards; Wm. j
E. Taylor and Chattie Chapman: i
dora Jefferg; Arthur C Moore and
Paula E. Rankin.
Joseph Shukosky, a former res
ident of Washington County, bat who,
some months ago, was taken to the
state hospital at Salem, died there
and was brought to this city for bur
ial, the funeral taking place at St.
Mathews church. Be was a Pole by
birth, and so far as is known, has no
relatives. His age was 84 years.

some time ago leased his 62-acre
farm in the Naylor addition to A. A.
Bollovpet, for a term of five years,
has sued the same for $500, for cut
ting down twenty-six trees of ash
and oak, . besides numerous little
trees, which acted as a break when
the creek waB high.

Thieves entered the granery of J.
Soper, on the Hawthorne place, by
.breaking the lock, and helped them
selves to 25 bushels of oats. Be has
been missing other things, so recent
ly put locks on all of his buildings,
but this 'lock was forced open.
Tracks showed that a machine had
carried the grain away.
Ida Hay Land and Frank Cabler,
of the Tigard neighborhood, eloped
and went to Portland, and were mar
ried. The girl is but sixteen and

Miss Lenore Eldora Jeffers and
John Robert Irmler were married
Wednesday of last week at the home
of the bride'B grand parents, Mr. and

Smith, of Portland, officiated, The
house was prettily decorated and the
wedding took place at high noon.
After a short wedding trip the liappy

At a recent meeting of the Hills
boro Fire Department the following
were selected as officers: Frank
Waibel, chief; John Henslcy, assist
ant chief; W. O. Morley, president;
Lee Oaks, secretary; F. J. Sewell,
treasurer. The new chief will pro
ceed to have lines painted marking
