Now would be a good time for a delegation of dur taxpay ers to visit the Commissioners and Judge at Hillsboro and ask for some rock. The crusher will be working at Hazeldale. The road Supervisor lias a good summer road at present. Now for plenty of rock, so we may connect with the Highway next win ter. Frost has giv en all Eighth grade graduates an opportunity to have commencement exercises. In some districts during the past, ambitious students have been denied this honor,' but Mr. Frost has eliminated these difficul ties and has placed the educational system of Washington County on a higher plane of efficiency. Miss Edna Reusser is home for the summer. Miss Reusser has com pleted teaching school over in Tilla mook county, where she met with re markable success. -. The children have been busy ds week gathering wild strawberries and many are the shortcakes that grace our dining life hath many charms." v A Miss Louise Huber conducted the May examination for the .. Eighth grade at the school house. Messrs. Nick Kemmer and . Mills figured out the cost of crushing and quarrying of 6000 yards of rock at the Hazeldale quarry. They submit ted their bid at the bank in Hillsbo ro. When the bids were opened the only bid cheaper than their's was by former Judge Reasoner, being 6c less 1 per yard. This "is close figuring for the tax payers. The school closed last Friday with a picnic and neld-meet. An ideal day and a big crowd was a winning com bination. The forenoon was devoted to a Literary program and ciphering contest by the children. The ladiea served a fine, dinner at noon. Bginning at 1 o'clock, the field meet between Huber and Cooper Mt. schopls provided much entertainment and many thrills for all present. Charles Barron" started the races with a gun, while Thos. Mitzel and Messrs. Blomquist and Jacobsen were judges. Events and Winners, were as fol lows :100 yard dash Dewey Walker; 50 yard dash, (Boys) Alden Barron; Pie Eating iContestJames Sams, Champion: Sack Race Alden Bar ron, t The prettiest event was the girl's Relay Race which won by Cooper Mt. girls, Ruth Walker, captain, Gertrude Oberg, Bernice Barron, Millie Jacob sen and Myrtle Walker. The greased pole with "two Tans of axle grease" was a Tartar as some of the boys kept on climbing until 8 P. M. but didnot reach top. The most exciting event of the day was the baseball game between Hu ber and Cooper Mt. schools. Peterson, Erickscn and Sproat was the battery for Huber while Johny Hicks and Cecil Barnes were the "Heavy Ar tillery" for mountaineers. It was a bully game with some terrific slug ging and when the smoke rolled by Cooper Mt. was on top 17 ,to 16. Fred Reusser, Umpire.
