Carrie Carlson. HIS PART. L The evening fell softly On a little village in the west, Where a mother's heart was mourn ing . For her sons who have gone to rest n. The children grouped about the fire To hear the stories told, How he had carried the flag aloft Til his face was white and cold. in Be proud, you mother whose black robes fall About thy form, where beats an aching heart, When memories sad come back to you ' Remember, he did his part! Laura Olson. NOTICE TO MEN IN MILITARY SERVICE. The State Council of Defense and Oregon Historical Society are mak ing a campaign to get full and cor rect information for a permanent record of all man in the service. This information cannot be secured from the records of the government The School Board and teacher in to distribute the War Record Blanks, assist in filling them out if necessary and return them to the County School Superintendent's office. - We want a blank filled out for everyone who rightfully is a resi dent of Washington County or was at the time of enlistment An effort will be made to place the blanks. in the hands of every fam ily having members in the service. If anyone is overlooked they are requested to apply to the committee of their own school district for the blanks. Anyone having had board ers, hired men or friends who would be likely to be missed will be doing these men a real service by giving their names to the committee. Many Washington County boys enlisted in Portland, Seattle, Brem erton or other places and their own county and district gets no credit for them in the permanent reocrds unless we get their record now. Everyone should be interested in helping to make this a perfect record and to have no one left out. ,N. A. FROST, County School Supt BANK OP BEAVERTON Beaverton, Oregon.
