In 1917 Beaverton scnooi came home with 37 county champions. From Dresent indications the Beaverton Band of the future should be well supplied with drummers, as 80 boys now take their ' turns at the drums in marching. Old Oreeon has favored us with balmy weather this winter and the health of the pupils has been excellent, . Pier nrenarations are being made for the second oratorical contest of the term which will be staged the latter part of this month. Th hasket ball team is jubi lant over their victory Saturday night when they defeated the Cornelius Scouts by a score of 30 to 29. The funny part of it wa that some "old scouts" were mivBfl in with the visitors. It was a dandy game. The seventh and eighth graae students voted to have cartoon inir this month in the drawing classes, preparatory to entering "Cartoons" in the Second Ait Contest which will be held in February. It is interesting to mote that "Mutt and Jeff" are the favorites of the eighth grade, while "Jiggs and Maggie" won the honors in the seventh. Davis is in Seattle. Land in the Sorrento is srettins quite swampy, owing to the ex cessive rainfall. ' The Red Cross unit is now held on Tuesdays instead of Fri- lys. ' - Miss Oma Emmons has re turned to her school at Denzer, Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Em mons, after a two-weeks' visit with parents and friends in this vicinity and in Portland, have returned to Monroe, Oregon, at which place he has charm of a 400-acre ranch. Geoi-fe F. The course of Instruction at the West Point Military uendemy requires four years, end Is chiefly mathemati cal and professional. Only one leave of absence Is allowed dur ing the four years, and this Is grit n red at the end of the second yer, The regular session of study ami academic duties continues from September 1 to June 1, the intervening months being spent In camp, where practical mili tary training Is given. If more of the members will at tend, the room will be kept open on additional days.
