Walter Adams was here from Wal la Walla Wednesday. A. C. Mclntyre, Pendleton attorney, was in Athena Sunday, Mrs. Maggie Banister has pur chased a new Chevrolet sedan. F. S. LeGrow was in Walla Walla, Wednesday transacting business. Jewell Pinkerton has returned to school after an attack of measles. A number of cases of measles are still reported in Athena and vicinity. Alvin Kibbey has been out of school several days as a result of measles. Mr, and Mrs. Ralph Singer and son Fred visited relatives in Echo, Sun day. B. B. Richards has been appointed executor of the Sanford Stone es state. The estate is appraised at ap proximately $3,000. Herb Franklin and Lester Gangher of State Line visited at the George Green home, Sunday, Mr. Franklin is a nephew of Mrs. Green. Dr. R. D. Blatchford went down to Portland and Salem Monday on busi ness. J. W. Smith came over from Helix, Sunday and witnessed the baseball game. Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Watts motored to Pasco and neighboring towns last Sunday. Ed Leonard came down from Waits burg Monday and gpent the day in Athena. . . Frank Snyder, well known Weston blacksmith was an Athena visitor Sunday. E. A. Dudley who is at College Place for treatment is slightly im proved. M. L. Watts motored to Walla Wal la Wednesday where he transacted business. - Mrs. Dora Sanchez arrived home last week from an extended visit in Portland. ' J. M. Banister and son Raymond of Weston transacted business here Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruce and son Ralph spent Sunday at their home above Gibbon. Gordon Watkins went to Spokane Monday evening, where he attended a convention of Rexall druggist: Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. George Brace and Mrs. Fred Remillard of Thorn Hollow were in Athena Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Bloom were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Watkins, Sunday. W. H. Albee deputy game warden, of Pendleton, was a business visitor here Wednesday. - G. H. Bishop prominent Freewa ter attorney was a business visitor here Wednesday. Don Barnes, farmer of the Waits burg district visited relatives in Athena Wednesday. John Thompson, prominent cattle man of Gibbon was a business vis itor here Thursday. Tennis enthusiasts are cleaning the courts and putting them in order for the summer season. Mr. and Mrs. Lisle Gray and little sons spent a part of the day f unday on the ymatilla river. Amiel fachubert who has been ill and threatened with pneumonia is out of danger and improving. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jenkins vis ited at the Helix home of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Boylen, Sunday. Mrs. Fred Pittman spent yesterday in Weston where she visited her sis ter Mrs. Nellie St. Dennis. Mrs. W. B. Campbell spent last week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Sam Bowman of Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Eager of Dayton are visiting at the home of their son C. M. Eager here. Remember the ball game this af ternoon Athena-Adams high school teams on the local grounds. A group of Walla Walla friends enjoyed a buffet dinner at the Henry Koepke home Saturday night. Roy Hyatt was a business visitor in Athena Wednesday, coming here from his home on Weston mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Hodgen of The Dalles, were week-end visitors at the M. Johnson home in Athena. Bert Loesdon and Dalberth Taylor motored to Richland yesterday fore noon and returned in the afternoon. The recent frosts have injured wheat near Adams and west of Athe na to some extent, especially that which has been cultivated this spring. Anglers who fished on the Uma tilla river and its tributaries Sunday, reported high water and poor success. Frank Pierce and R. S. Gonsell were business visitors here Wednesday from the reservation mountain district. Ralph and Lloyd Gillis of Washtuc- na were in Athena Monday, on busi ness pertaining to the A. M. Gillis estate. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson and, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Tate of Pendle ton spent Sunday at the Lee Wilson home. Mrs. Donald Johnson and little son are visiting at the home of Mrs. El bee, sister of Mrs. Johnson, at Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. John Geiss of Adams, have returned to their home there, af ter spending several months in California. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Miller and Goldie and George spent the week end at the Robert Cutler home in La Grande. Rev. Hutton of Milton preached at the local Christian church last Sun day in the absence of Rev. Sias in Pendleton. Penn Harris and Lee Wilson went over to Couse creek Tuesday and creeled 42 trout of lawful size, be tween them. The farm home and buildings on the Edcar Forrest place on the Umatilla river bottom, escaped damage in the recent flood. C. M. (Mel) White accompanied by Mr. Collins.- a cattleman from the Umapine district, were Athena vis itors Wednesday. Adams hieh school plays Athena high on the local grounds this after noon', and the fans are expecting an other close game. F. C. Sloan was here from Spokane this week transacting business in connection with the Washington-Ida ho Seed company. Mrs. II. A. Barrett and daughter Helen were luncheon guests Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Smith in Helix. Wayne Pittman has a miniature chicken ranch up at his residence on Adams street. He is speciauiing in Buff Orphingtons. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Pinkerton en tertained Mr. and Mrs. William Ham mer of Walla Walla, Sunday, at their home on Jefferson street. Frank Blair, foreman of the Wash ington-Idaho Seed company's clean ing and grading plant in Athena, is a new subscriber to The Press. Mrs, Lois Tubbs assisted by Mrs. Faye Mann entertained members of the Adams Ladies Community club at the club rooms Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton and daughter Jewel, were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Bla lock in Pendleton, Tuesday evening. J. W. Pinkerton has assembled the material for a rock corner in his park ing strip on Fourth street. He obtain ed the rock south of town. The rock and soil have been arranged to re caiva tht plants. Miss Madeline Rohde who accom panied R. A. Duffleld and family hoine from Portland, after a brief visit has returned to her home in McCoy, Ore. Rogers & Goodman are vacating the Barrett warehouse on Main .street, moving farm machinery and imple ments to the Northern Pacific ware house. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pinkerton spent Tuesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Frazier at Milton, where their little granddaughter, Cel este, was ill. William McPherson and John Stan dage spent Sunday fishing on the Umatilla river and Bear Creek, near Bingham Springs. They caught not many trout, but good ones. Mrs. Allie Mays of Waitsburg vis ited at the home of Mrs. Jennie Bar rett Wednesday. She was en route to Pendleton to visit Mrs. Abbie Mays. Mrs. Frank Little and her mother motored to Kennewick Sunday to vis it the latter's daughter who is ser iously ill there. The visitors return ed here Monday. A number of Athena people will go to Pendleton tomorrow to attend the county track meet in which Athena divisional track winners will com pete in various events. Miss Delia Bryant and Miss Blanche Thorson spent the week-end at Lewis ton where they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chase Garfield. They made the trip by motor. Mrs. C. M. Eager left Monday morning for Portland where she will spend the week. She accompanied Mrs. Gilbert, her sister-in-law, and the ladies made the trip by motor. Word from Mrs. J. F. Kershaw at Ontario is to the effect that her mother, Mrs. Willaby is considerably better. Mrs. Kershaw contemplates returning home within a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hand have moved from the Allen place west of town to Athena to reside. They are occupying the Jesse Gordon cottage on Adams street, between Fourth and Fifth. Walter Myers, whose father was formerly a miller here for the Preston-Shaffer Milling company, and who attended the Athena school, was a vis itor in the city Monday. Walter rep resents a California rubber company. Members of the Adams Community Dance club and their friends continue to enjoy the popular Saturday evening dances. Despite the busy season, the dances are well attended. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ross and daughter, Geraldine, and Howard and Harry Grove of Thorn Hollow, at tended the benefit dance in Athena, Wednesday evening of last week. Circle No. 147 of Weston will in itiate candidates at their lodge hall in Weston, May 1. Athena Circle No. 10 will be honor guests and will take several candidates to the neighboring city for initiation. Refreshments will be served and a social hour enjoy ed. , Adams high school, under direction of Miss Straughan, will present three one-act plays at the school auditorium on Friday evening, May 1. The date was postponed from tomorrow night on account of illness of cast members. Glee club and orchestra numbers will also appear on the program. A group of friends were entertain ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Mclntyre Sunday, in honor of the birthday anniversary of William Potts. Mrs. Mclntyre's father. A birthday cake centered the table and plates were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Walker, Mr. John Walker, Miss Jennie Mae Walker and Miss Violet Grover, and Mr. and Mrs. Mc lntyre and two daughters. Mr. Sias who has been supplying the pulpit in Pendleton for the past two weeks, will be in his own puipic this Sunday to preach morning and evening at the Christian church. Wed nesday night, April 29th will be the monthly "church night" at the Chris tian church, when members and friends will have a potluck lunch to gether at 6:30 p. m., and participate in a fellowship program. The concluding meeting of the sea son of the Jolly Twenty club was held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. James Lieuallen, Jr., at Adams, Fri day afternoon, when plans were made for holding a club picnic on some date in June. Besides eleven members, guests present were Mrs. Forrest Zerba, Mrs. Clarence Tubbs, Mrs. George Woodward of Walla Walla. At the tea hour the hostess served salad, hot rolls and cocoa. In honor of the sixteenth birthday of her daughter, Valeria, Mrs. Roy Can non last Sunday entertained at din ner a group of the former's friends. At the attractively appointed dinner table which was centered with sweet peas, covers were laid for eight. In addition to the hostess and the hon oree there were present: Nylene Tay lar, Rachel Smith, Maxine Moore, Mary Jane Miller, Roberta Cannon and Rose Marie Cannon. Spring flowers were used in decora tion at the Dell home Friday after noon, when members of the Athena bridge club were entertained by Mrs. Dell. Guests in addition to club mem bers were: Mrs. Armand DeMcrritt of Walla Walla and Mrs. Fred Pink erton. Following luncheon three tables of bridge were in play, first honors being won by Mrs. Glenn Dud ley, second by Mrs. R. B. McEwen while Mrs. Fred Pinkerton was the re cipient of a guest prize. The meeting of the Methodist ladies Saturday was held at the home of Mrs. W. O. Read near town, thirty being in attendence. Visitors were Mrs. Chas Betts, Mrs. Kohler Betts, Mrs. Granville Cannon, Mrs. Garrett, Mrs. Verlin Haverland and Mrs, Will Campbell, jr. Interesting topics were read by Mrs. W. O. The next meet ing will be held at the home of Mrs. Ethel Montague. The Thimble club held its second meeting Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ad Pinkerton. During the business session completion of the organization plans were made and several new members added. A quilt of sunbonnet baby design was start ed and blocks given to members to finish. Other members made the tea towels which will be for sale by the club. The towels are handmade and embroidered and orders will be taken. The hostess was assisted at the tea hour, by Mrs. Will Harden and Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton. Those present were Mrs. Sarah Rowland, Mrs. Jim Jones, Mrs. Stella Keen, Mrs. Lola Payne, Mrs. Matt Johnson, Mrs. Lee Johnson, Mrs. Will Harden, Mrs. A. Garner, Mrs. Mary McKay, Mrs. Will Pinkerton, Mrs. Elder, Mrs. Bruno Weber, Mrs. Laurence Pinker ton and the hostess. The club will meet next Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Matt Johnson.
