Lee spent Wed nesday of last week with relatives in Dayton, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Parris were in the city Tuesday from their home near Walla Walla. Miss Marjorie Wilson has been a guest this week of her sister, Mrs. E. E. Tate, at Helix. Mr. and Mrs. Penn Harris will leave tomorrow for Portland, where they will spend several days. . A number of Athena young people attended the Round-Up dance at Pendleton, Monday evening. Orel McPherrin has been given the position of local agent for the Old Oregon Trail Freight company. The ladies of the Methodist church were out in force Monday afternoon, raking weeds and grass off the prem ises. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Rogers spent last week at Washtucna and Spokane, where they visited relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. McCowan and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Jacobs of Walla Walla, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. 0. Montague. Roy DeFreece came over from Free water, where he is employed in Skagg's chain store, and spent Sun day with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Graham and son Jack, were here from Albany, Oregon, last week, visiting relatives in Athena and Weston. Mrs. Bern Banister, who was a hos pital patient last week for medical treatment, has returned to her home here, and is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gerking ' of Freewater were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Gerking at their country home, west of Athena. Bern Banister returned from a visit with relatives at Longview, last Fri day. He was accompanied home by his little grandson, Bobbie Stackley. Mrs. Cherry of Hermiston is teach ing in District No. 62. Seven pupils are enrolled. Mrs. Cherry and her two children are residing in the teach erage. Mrs. F. B. Radtke and daughter Kathleen went to Eugene Wednesday, where Miss Radtke will enter upon her second year's work at University of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Keller and lit tle daughter Helen are over from Bend this week, visiting relatives and friends. They will also attend the Round-Up. Mrs. John Stackley returned to her home in Longview Monday evening, after visiting at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bern Banister, for several days. ' Fred Radtke returned Tuesday from Eugene where he spent the fore part of the week. The latter part of the month he will return to University of Oregon for his junior year. The Athena branch of the Malen Burnett School of Music was organ ized for the coming year by Miss Edna Hanna, at the high school audi torium, Wednesday of last week. J. H. Harwood recently completed Daintinir and decorating the interior of the Floyd Pinkerton home, west of Athena. Mr. Harwood is now employ, ed at the Laurence Pinkerton home. Weston Leader: Mrs. Luella Pint erton began her teaching work Mon day at the Mission school. Miss Wright is an operator in the Walla Walla telephone exchange, and is taking her annual vacation at this time. Miss Hilda Dickenson came up from Arlington to attend the funeral of her grandmother. Mrs. Thomas De Freece. Miss Dickenson is cruel operator in the Arlington telephone exchange. The junior members of the Baptist, Sunday school, gave a party in the church basement on Tuesday evening of last week, at which about fifty guests gathered. Orel Michener visited in Milton Saturday night, the guest of Wayne Pinkerton. The thirteenth carload of beans were shipped from the cleaning plant in Athena, Tuesday. Dr. and Mrs. Rice and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. McFadden were in Pendle ton, Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hirsch came down from Waitsbufg Sunday and visited friends in Athena. Miss Ethel Pittman has taken a position in the offices of the Tacoma Creamery Company. She reports her work pleasant and she likes the Sound city very much. Bert Ramsay has dahlias oi two colors growing from a single bulb, The blooms on one stem are dark red in color, while red and white blooms come forth from the second stem. Miss Barbara Castleman of Ontario who with her mother has been visit at the home of her aunt Mrs. Fred Kershaw, left Wednesday night for Seattle, where she will enter the University of Washington. Miss Beulah Smith, high school teacher, will spend the week-end in Pendleton at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Smith and daughter, Mrs. Van Blockland of Island City and La Grande will also be week-end guests Til Stone has been a patient at College Place hospital this week. For a while the lad was threatened witn an attack of pneumonia, but has re covered sufficiently to be removed to the home of his aunt, Mrs. wood ward, in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Mclietnen ana little daughter, Mary Jane, are here from Thermopolis, Wyoming, visiting at the home of Mrs. McKethen's sis ter, Mrs. Dean Dudley. The matinee will begin promptly at 3 o'clock, Sunday afternoon. OflWrs for the coming year for the Athena Study club were elected Friday afternoon, when Mrs. b. K. Rogers entertained the club. Mrs. Lew McNair was chosen as president Mrs. E. C. Rogers, vice-president, and for secretary and treasurer Mrs. Louis Keen and Mrs. R. A. Thompson with Mrs. M. I. Miller as assistant in caring for the books of study, will officiate during the year. The next meeting will be guest day, and will be held at the home of Mrs. F. B. Boyd, on September 27. Mrs. Har den's right arm and throat are af fected with paralysis. Dr. S. F. Sharp is at his home in Athena from the hospital at Walla Walla, where he was confined for several weeks. The doctor is consid erably better, his Athena friends will be pleased to learn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ramville and daughter have been here this week at the home of Mrs. Ramville's mother, Mrs. S. C. Stanton, who with Cleve Stanton returned this week with them from Colfax, Washington. An error of price in N. A. The price is a re duction on a fine black walnut dining room set, formerly sold at $150. , Mr. and Mrs. Montague were in Walla Walla Monday evening, where they witnessed the showing of the film, "The Progressive Grocery," which was sponsored by the Red and White chain grocery store system. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Miller came up from St. Helens, Oregon, to attend the Round-Up. They have been visit ing at the home of Mr. Miller's par ents, Mr. and Mrs., Henry ; Miller.
