Miss Frederica Kershaw is spending the week at Walla Walla, where she is taking lessons from Gensel on the Wurlitzer pipe organ. Guy Matlock, Henry Collins and John Hamley of Pendleton, were among those who shot for turkeys at the turkey shoot in Athena, Sunday. Clifford Wood is home from 0. A. C. Weston Leader: Mrs. Lucy Davis, who with her family resided in Wes ton some 30 years ago, died Novem ber 22 of paralysis at Blackfoot, Idaho. Mrs. Davis was a widow, 70 years old, and is survived by two sons and three daughters. She was an aunt of G. W. Workmen have completed resetting the poles carrying the electric wires on the Preston-Shatter Mining com pany Athena-Weston line. 'Ihe pres ent poles on the line will be replaced with new ones next spring. Miss Sadie Pambrun has been visit ing at the home of her sister, Mrs. Baer at Mt. Hope, ldano, tms wee. Probably anoth er date will be set for the playing of these games. Mrs. Carrie Heinen who came from California to visit her parents, Dr. and Mrs. S. F. McFadden were in Walla Walla Monday, where Mrs. McFadden called on her sister, Mrs. Vorn Smith and new babv son. McEwen has been substituting ior him in school work. Mrs. McEwen has also been engaged this week as a substitute teacher in the grade schools, in place of one of the teach ers, who has been ill. It is found that better progress can be made in dis tributing the mail by this method when there is a large volume to be handled. John Ross, crower of fancv apples at his farm on the Walla Walla river above Milton, was in town Wednes day with a truck load of fruit ior delivery here and at Pendleton. Sunday night Bebe Daniels comes in "Take Me Home," a nne Paramount comedy-drama. Christmas night the big spectacular production, "Old Ironsides," will be shown at regular admission prices. In the prologue John Kirk will read Oliver Wendell Holmes' famous poem, with Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton at the piano. There was no insurance carried on the Narkiis farm buildines destroyed by fire and which was started by a demented tennant named Harrington, last week. The barn destroyed by Harrington also, on the Ball place was not insured, it is reported, nar- rington who went violently insane, has been committed to the State hos pital at Pendleton. He was unmar ried, and resided alone on tne warKus mountain ranch. A number of Athena people motor ed to Weston Sunday night where they enjoyed the cantata "Chimes of the Holy Night," presented by the Methodist choir of that city. Soloists who sung in excellent voice, were Miss Zada Snider, Mrs. Winn, Miss Vinnie Moyer Aldric Wendler, and Clark Wood. Ruby Price Webb ac companied at the piano and the chorus was directed by Mrs. Anna Tompton Winn. The obligato passages with chorus accompaniment were especially beautiful and the entire presentation was most tuneiui anu appropriate to the Christmas Beason. The church was beautifully decorated with carlands of Christmas greens interspersed with myriads of red bells which formed a most attractive setting. r Mrs. Dow, wife of the pastor of the Baptist church of this city was delightfully surprised Thursday afternoon when she was maoe tne re cipient of a kitchen shower. Many useful and attractive gifts were in eviHenre and the affair was eiven by the members of the Missionary' society. A bountiful supply of home canned fruits and . pickles was also nresented to the honor guest. A fontnre of the afternoon was the poetry composed and recited by the memhers describiner methods of earn ing the dollar each member gave as a contribution to the general fund of j the church. A delicious concoction of dates and nuts was served as the "piece de resistance" at the tea hour, which followed the business meeting of the organization. Poinsettias. red carnations and candles and Christmas wreaths were used for decorations at the Alec Mc- Intyre home Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. Mclntyre and Mrs. Tea f uiKer- ton enterttained. .Thirty-two guests were present and found their places at the bridge tables wnicn were marked with miniature Christmas trees. Score cards bore the holiday motif also. High score was made by Mrs. H. I. Watts, and the second prize was presented to Mrs. uienn Dudley, Mrs. Arthur uougias re ceiving the consolation.
