r Press Paragraphs "Across the Atlantic" Standard Theatre, tomorrow night. "The Detectives" Standard Theatre, Sunday night. Mrs. A. W. Logsdon has been ill at her home this week. Born To Mr. and Mrs. Henry Booher, July 3, 1928, a son. Mrs. Sam Haworth returned home from St. Mary's hospital Sunday. .Ruth Williams and Sadie Pambrun were Walla Walla guests Wednesday. H. Wade LeRoy has been employed on the farm of Mrs. Lilla Kirk this week. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kirk and wee son of Dry Creek were Athena visit ors Sunday. Mr. Will Mumford, of Salem, Ore gon was a wceK-ena guest at ine Betts' ranch. Robert Mitchell of near Vancouver is visiting relatives in Athena, ar riving Saturday. Justin Harwood, assisted by Tom McClure, is calsomining at the school house this week. Mr. Albert Lee of Seattle, Wash., will make an indefinite visit to the E. 0. Lee family. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hirsch and daughter Patty of Freewater, were Athena visitors Sunday. Mrs. Al Nordene and son of near Spokane are visitors this week at the Wm. Russell home. Mrs. Al Nordene, Miss Thena Rus sell and Mrs. Elmer Stockstill were Walla Walla visitors Tuesday. Billy Pinkerton and Penn Harris made a fine catch of rainbow trout in the Umatilla river, Monday. Bryce Baker and Herman Geissel spent the Fourth at Colfax; also visited a few hours at Lewiston. Mr. and Mrs. W. J.' Kirk visited Mrs. Hess, mother of Mrs. Kirk, in Walla Walla Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lew McNair have leased the A. A. Foss residence and took up their new abode Monday. Al Walthausen and Fred Marshall of Grand View, Washington, spent the week-end at the Frank Ames home. Mrs. Lloyd Michener is employed at the Quality Grocery this week, in the absence of Mrs. Alice Eager, own er. Roy Johnston and Lucille Smith and the A. L. Venable and Martin families spent Sunday and Monday at Cold Springs picnicing and in quest of huckleberries Mrs. Alva Blalock and children of Spokane are visiting this week at the home of Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton The ladies are sisters. Mrs. Louis Keen who has been a patient at St. Mary's hospital, Walla Walla for several days was able to return home Tuesday Norwood Forrest, who has spent the past two weeks with his friend Roland Riehards left for his home at Thorn Hollow Tuesday evening. F. G. Martin of Yakima, Washing ton, who represents the Claim De partment of The Travelers was a business caller in Athena Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Littlejohn and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Michener were among Athena people who attended the ball game at College Place Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ames enjoyed a visit over the fourth with his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Martin of Grand View who spent several days here. Little Helen Rogers and Funny a Bull pup owned by Dr. Cowan, had a disagreement Saturday and Funny nipped Helen in the face causing a black eye as the result. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Guerney re turned to their home in Baker, Satur day after a short time spent in Ath ena visiting Mrs. Guerney's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Littlejohn. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Chapman and Miss Josephine Chapman of Van couver, Washington, parents and sister of Mrs. Flint Johns spent the week at the Johns home west of town. After a long absence from the screen at the Standard Theatre, Monte Blue returns tomorrow night in a thrilling Warner Brother's epic of airplane pilots, "Across the At lantic." A union gathering of the Christian Endeavor Societies of Milton-Free-water, Weston,, Athena, Adams, Helix and Pendleton took place at Milton last evening. Games and refresh ments were enjoyed. Mignonette Rebeckah lodge met Tuesday evening. Installation was the business of the evening with the following officers, Belle Pinkerton, N. G.; Ruth Williams, V. G.; Lucille Smith, Recording sec. Miss Thena Russel returned home after several weeks spent with her sister and family Mrs. Al Nordene near Spokane. Miss Russel will spend the remainder of the summer with her sister Mrs. Elmer Booher at Con don. Mr. and Mrs. II. J. Perry and family arrived home last Friday after a week spent at Vale, Oregon. Mrs. Clara Hope and Miss Mary Charles accompanied them home and expect to remain through the summer months. The hot wave has made customers for the soda fountains and the swim ming pool. The new springboard for which Dale Stephens and Wilber Harden secured subscriptions has been installed, and adds greatly to the pleasures of diving. Mrs. Bessie Mynck, Mrs. Rose Miller of Athena, and Mrs. Raymond Geissel have been enjoying a visit with relatives and friends at Fort- land, Longview and Bend. Mothers of Boy Scouts are sponsor ing a cooked food, sale to be held by the Scouts tomorrow afternoon at Steve's Grocery. Anyone desiring to contribute cooked food for the sale may do so, and these donations will be greatly appreciated. Mrs. Delbert Crimmins of Free' water was an Athena caller Tues day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Crim mins former residents of Athena and later of Freewater are moving to Pendleton, where Mr. Crimmins is employed at Pendleton Flour Mill. The B. Y. P. U. of the Baptist church were joyfully entertained by the Misses Margaret and Dorothy Lee at their home West of town, Saturday evening. Games of various kinds was the diversion of the eve ning and dainty refreshments were served at a late hour. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Alkire, former ly of Pendleton, are recent arrivals in Athena and are residing in the Wagner cottage on upper Fourth street. Mr. Alkire, who is a brother of Mrs. Bert Ramsay, is a machinist and is in the employ of Jim Hill of the Helix neighborhood. Mrs. C. M. Eager left Tuesday eve ning in company with her sister Mrs. Chas. Bond of Pendleton, for Seaside. The ladies made the trip by motor and expect to be gone about a week. Betty Jane and Virginia who have spent the past two weeks at the famous resort will return with their mother. Mrs. Josephine Wright of Walla Walla conducted a cooking school in Athena Tuesday. The morning was devoted to cuts of meats at the local market and ways to serve meat was demonstrated at the Christian church at 2 p. m. A large attendance of ladies took advantage of the demon strations. Mr. and Mrs. James Twohy drove up from Portland Monday and spent the day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Boyd. Tuesday they were ac companied to Lewiston by Mr. and Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Twohy returning to Athena with them Wednesday, while Mr. Twohy remained at Orofino, Idaho, for a few days. A community picnic dinner was held the fourth of July on Third St. when several neighbor families met on the Logsdon lawn where a bounteous picnic lunch was served. The Max Hopper's, F. L. Zerba's D. H. Mansfield's, Nat Kimball's and A. W. Logsdon's were some of the families participating. Mrs. Ora Smith and Mrs. Delbert Crimmins of Milton met with a pain ful accident, last Friday morning when a large sedan owned and driven by Fred Lampkin of Pendleton, col lided with the Chas. Murray car of Freewater in which the two ladies were occupants. The Murray car was headed for Athena and the Lampkin car was on the way to the Country Club. In attempting to pass a truck load of logs on a curve at the top of Dry Creek hill the Murray car was hit head on, throwing the occupants through the windshield causing lacerations and bruises. Athena Boy Scouts j (By Scoutmaster LeRoy) Troop nineteen had a very fine turn out for the Court of Honor session held at Camp Nuznupa last Sunday. The benefit sale is to be held Saturday so lets all do all we can to help make this a success. Tell our folks and others to buy their Sunday dinner and picnic lunch at the sale This sale is being put over by the women of the community and is for the benefit of the Scout finances so lets do our part. Thanks to Bill Ferguson for the use of his truck to take the boys to the Scout camp on the Walla Walla river Sunday. Wayne Bannister passed his tender foot requirements and is now a full fledged scout. The summer haying and harvest is keeping some of the boys from taking as much interest as they would like to but their turn will come and they can make up for what the others are getting this summer. Boys should start getting their mounts groomed for the Round Up as they wilt want to be second to none (of their kind.) John Kirk and committee of scouts ou which he will bo chairman will have charge of the next mounted hike that will be held right after harvest, the name of the hike, where we are going and other details will be an nounced by the committee soon. More new scout uniforms made their appearance on Athena scouts this week and we now have a full patrol of them. Some of the work that was exhibit ed by the boys for merit badges in agriculture, carpentry, "woodworking, athletics and the other tests would make some of the older people step lively to duplicate, for their was some good skill displayed with the work.
