Press Paragraphs "Under the Black Eagle" Standard Theatre, tomorrow night. Bryce Baker left Tuesday for Horse Heaven, to be gone several days. Mr. and Mrs. M. I. Miller and eons will spend the week-end at La Grande. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Zerba and daughter of Waitsburg were Athena visitors Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Zerba and sons were dinner guests of Chas. Williams and daughter Ruth, Sunday. Roy DeFreece began his duties as salesman at the Quality Grocery Store, Monday of this week. Mrs. H. 0. Worthington and Mr. and Mrs. Milne of Pendleton attend ed the Gerking funeral Sunday. The ladies of the Baptist church will hold a cooked food sale at Steves tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Taylor and son and daughter spent Sunday at the new farm home of A. A. Foss near Freewater. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Duffield enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Meyer at dinner Monday,' at their home on Third street. The Legion Post announces a dance for tomorrow night at Legion Hall. Fred Small's jazz orchestra will fur nish the music Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Mansfield of Pendleton spent Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. A. W. Logs don and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Radtke and Mrs. Stella Keen attended the Symphony orchestra concert last Sunday at the Whitman auditorium. R. E. Bean, publisher of the Free water Times and candidate for re election to the office of county com-' missioner, was an Athena visitor Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Harder and daughter of Milton visited over the week-end with Mrs. Harder's father Frank DeFreece. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Frederick left Wednesday morning for Pullman, Washington, where they expect - to enter summer school. Reverend Guy L. Drill and Mrs, Drill of Pendleton were in the city Sunday attending the funeral of the late J. N. B. Gerking. Bill Wheatley has returned to Ath ena from Phillipsburg, Montana, where he spent several months at the Fay LeGrow cattle ranch. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Logsdon and daughter Dona Jeane were dinner guests at the Nat Kimball home in Pendleton Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Willaby and daughters of Freewater and Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Tharp of Walla Walla were Athena callers Sunday. Mrs. W. S. Ferguson returned from Nampa, Idaho, Thursday evening after a weeks visit with her daughter and family, Mrs. H. Belknap. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hill and daughter of Walla Walla spent Sun day visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hill and the B. B. Richards family. Mrs. M. M. Johns is making ex tensive improvements to her cottage on Adams street, among them being a fire place and new windows. Mrs. Mary Tompkins has returned to her home at Long Beach, Califor nia, after several weeks spent in Ath ena and Walla Walla visiting her children. Mr. and Mrs. Swift are moving to Athena from Kamela, where they spent the past winter. Mrs. Swift will teach in the Lamar school again next year. The Athena Study Club will close the year's work with a picnic lunch next Wednesday, held in the Walla Walla park. The members will as semble at 10 o'clock tit the home of Mrs. Fred Boyd where cars will be provided for conveying all to the ap pointed place. Mrs. Zeltha Mclntyre was called to Walla Walla Tuesday by the ill ness of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Cannon and children, who submitted to vaccinations. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Adair returned to Athena from Potlatch, Idaho, Mon day evening after their household gotts, and will locate again at Princeton, Idaho. J. N. Scott of Pendleton left Tues day morning for Lexington, Oregon. Mrs. 0. J. Cox who has been visiting here, from that city, accompanied him on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Tate of Helix, spent Sunday in Athena, at the home of Mrs. Tate's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilson. Mr. Tate is cashier of the bank at Helix. Mrs. 0. J. Cox of Lexington spent a few days the past week with her daughter Mrs. Ray Young and family! Mrs. Cox was called here by the death of the late J. N. B. Gerking. The annual picnic at Bingham Springs for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades was held Saturday. A full attendance, swimming and plenty to eat made the day a grand success. Miss Ellen Henry has returned to Athena to spend the summer with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Henry, Miss Henry has taught at Boardman the past year and will return in the fall. Mrs. A. A. Kimball of Pendleton arrived in Athena Saturday morning to visit her daughter Mrs. 0. 0. Stephens. Mrs. Kimball has spent several weeks in Seattle visiting friends and relatives. Only five, members of the Jolly Twenty Club were able to go to Wal la Walla Saturday when they gather ed at the city park for one o'clock lunch. The kiddies were included and enjoyed the day to its fullest. Mrs. Clarence Toole left Friday morning for Portland making the trip with Mrs. R. B. McEwen and Mrs. C. H. Smith in the McEwen car. Mrs. McEwen and Mrs. C. H. Smith spent a week visiting friends in Athena. Mrs. B. B. Richards, Mrs. 0. 0 Stephens and Miss Ruth Williams at tended the graduating exercises at the Keylor Grand Theatre Friday evening, for nurses of St. Mary's hospital, Walla Walla. Miss Eliza beth Holwager being among the graduates. Seventeen members of the 0. D. 0, club were guests at the Schwandt home south of Athena Tuesday when Mrs. Schwandt entertained for their last meeting for the year. The an nual picnic will be held at Thorn Hollow next Thursday,- when hus bands and families will be guests. Mrs. E. G. Judd of Gresham, Ore gon, was a guest at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Zerba, Wednesday, On Thursday, May 24th there will be an all day session at the Baptist church of the W. C. T. U. to honor the state President, Mrs. Jolly. All members are urged to be present. Mrs. A. W. Logsdon took Lawrence Stamper to Walla Walla Wednesday, to visit his brother Francis and lit tle sister. From there Lawrence will meet Mr. and Mrs. Clark Mace form erly of Athena but now of Sunnyside, Washington, and he will make his home with them. Coach Toole stayed over Sunday in Athena to play one more game with the local base ball team. He left Sunday evening joining Mrs. Toole in Portland where they will visit for a short time before going to Califor nia where they expect to spend the the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. M. I. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Michener and Herman Geissel accompanied Mr. Clarence Toole to Pendleton Sunday evening when Mr. Toole left at 10 p. m. for Portland, where he will join , Mrs. Toole and will sail for San Francisco Saturday morning. Among out of town people who at tended the Commencement Exercises of tho Athena high school were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beckner, Nolin; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Zerba, Waitsburg: Mrs. Lowell Harder, Milton; Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Kirk and Eugene Schrimpf, Weston; Mrs. Jack Bow man and Claude Hess, Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dickenson were host and hostess Sunday at a dinner in honor of Mrs. Fred Gross, mother of Mrs. Dickenson. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Keen and son Lester, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gross and son George and the host and hostess partook of a sumptuous three course dinner. The table was tastefully centered with yellow tulips. Lee A. Meyer, superintendent of Athena schools, his wife and little daughter are leaving town for their summer vacation. First they will visit in Portland, then go to Marsh field. From there Mr. and Mrs. Meyer will go to California by motor, returning to Marshfield, then back to Athena for the beginning of the school year. Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Watts were among some Pendleton folk Sunday when a picnic at Sunset Inn was en joyed in celebration of the birthday of Mr. R. A. Alexander. Sixteen members of the family and friends met for the occasion. A picnic lunch was served and a huge birthday cake, made by Mrs. Watts for Mr. Alex ander, with ices topped the meal. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Dudley and family celebrated a family reunion Sunday at Dayton, Washington at the city park. There were thirty five in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
