Clifr ford Wood and Wilford Miller were nominated. ' Tuesday, ' about ten o'clock, student body meeting was held and votes were cast for annual manager. Wilford Miller received twenty-four and Clifford Wood sixteen votes. Mr,B. B. Richards gave a talk to the student body and faculty about the using of tobacco, and the new enforcement of the state law regard ing the smoking of cigarettes. Grades " The primary room, under the in struction of Miss Sellers, is study ing the Dutch people and their cus toms. To illustrate this the pupils .re building an , attractive Dutch village on their sand table. Personal Helen Hansell was in Walla Walla Saturday. Ethel Pittman was absent from school Wednesday on account of ill ness. Areta Kirk was in Pendleton Satur day. , Jessjedeane Dudley and Kathleen Radtke spent Saturday in Walla Walla. A number of high school students accompanied teams to Milton. Clifford Wood, Weldon Bell, and Oral Michener visited Jack Moore who is in St. Mary's hospital in Walla Walla, Sunday. Jessiedeane Dudley, Kathleen Rad tke and Dorothy Geissel went to Helix with the basket ball team, Tuesday afternoon. Entertainment . Assembly was held Friday morn ing in the high school auditorium. The new popular songs which were mimeographed were practiced. The junior class sponsored the play "Step on it, Stan" given by members of the Stanfield faculty on Wednes day night, February 15. . -Faculty Mr. and Mrs. Miller were in Pend leton Saturday. While there he made arrangements for a baseball- game, and has prospects of a basketball game with Echo. 0 Miss Bateman and Miss Brodie witnessed the Mac-Hi-Athena basket ball game at Milton Friday night. Mr. Meyer attended the Mac-Hi-Athena game . Friday night. Alumni Wilber Harden, John Pinkerton, Dalberth Taylor; Arthur Taylor, Loraine Shick, Fay Pambrun, and Melvin Coppock attended the Mac-Hi-Athena basketlJall game, Friday night.. Classes . The junior class held a meeting, and it was voted that they shall sell candy at the basketball game with Pendleton, Wednesday, February 15. They also voted to sell candy at the play Wednesday night after the game. Marjorie Wilson, Emma Ring el and Pearl Green were appointed to sell candy, and Areta Kirk, Francis Cannon, and Alberta Charlton were appointed to usher at the play., Unique Oregon Paper To Be on Exhibition V .... UNIVERSITY OF OREGON, Eu gene. What is believed to be the smallest newspaper ever published in Oregon has recently been added to the journalism collection of the University or Oregon library, announces M. H. Douglass, librarian. This is a publl cation edited by Sheldon Sackett, now editor of the McMinnville Telephone Kcgister, when he was eight years old, ana We pngeg are just 2Va by 3 inches in size. The paper was called the Sheridan Sun, and later developed into a two column, 6 by 9 inch sheet, The paper consisted of four sages. In the issue now at the library, dated April 29, 1911, are such items as "Former President Roosevelt arrived at his Long Island homo after a speak ing tour to the Pacific Coast and back." Among local news trie tiny paper found room for a eouple of verses of poetry. It is well written and care fully edited, and will be regarded as one of the prize exhibits of the news paper display, says Mr. Douglass. Smith have completed the construct ion of a farm dwelling in the Helix neighborhood. W. L. Smock and C. W. Crawford, who are . recent arrivals in Weston. were in town Saturday, trading with Athena merchants. , A marriage license has been issued to Mr. Otis Ingle and Miss Fannie Scott. The wedding will take place next Wednesday. Frank Swaggart, who is a student at the Pendleton Business College spent Sunday at the home of his par ents, north of the city. George Buzan, ex-county assessor. has annouced himself as a republican candidate for the office of county treasurer, and will begin an active campaign immediately. James Mosgrove came down from his home in Alberta last evening. Mr, Mosgrove will remain here several days. He is pleased with Alberta s prospects. A number of Athena sportsmen are contemplating a revival of the Atn ena Rod and Gun Club. It is probable that the traps will' be repaired and monthly shoots take place. The picture show at the Athena opera house Friday and Saturday evenings was the best that has ever exhibited here. Evidently electricity is an important element in' the 'suc cessful production of moving pictures J. Chandler and Wm. Fine were in town yesterday from Elgin. They were on their way to Walla Walla with several head of draft horses which they will offer for sale. One span of 3-year-olds valued at $450. The city is installing five" 32-candle power incandescent street lights on Hunt Avenue. It is thought, consid ering the territory to be lighted, that the five incandescent lights will give better results than one arc light. At the McEwen, home Saturday night a party was -given in honor of Miss Irene Shea, of Pendleton, school mate of Miss Kate McEwen. A few of Miss McEwen's friends were the invited guests.
