Charles Booher was in Athena from Adams, Wednesday. Mrs. W. E. Potts and son Edwin, were in Pendleton Monday. Henry Frazier of Milton, was in Athena, Tuesday on business. Mrs. Ralph Singer spent the week end in Stanfield visiting relatives. Flint Johns finished seeding after a tough season's effort, by working until "pitch dark" Tuesday evening. William Davidson of Freewater spent Sunday in Athena visiting friends. Mrs. Fred Gross and Mrs. Claud Dickenson were in Walla Walla Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cannon and lit tle daughters were over from Walh Walla Sunday. Mrs. M. L. Watts attended the Country club at Walla Walla Thurs day of last -week. Mrs. Ernest Zerba is at College Place sanitarium, where she is re ceiving treatment. Mrs. Edgar Forrest was in Athe na Monday from her home near Thorn Hollow Station. The Blue Mountains were dressed in a mantle of white as the result of a snowfall, Wednesday. Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton spent Tues day at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maurice Frazier, at Milton. Mrs. Jennie Gross, Mrs. Arthur Douglas and Mrs. Bryce Baker were Walla Walla visitors Monday. Miss Edna DeFreece spent the week end in Milton at the home of her sister Mrs. Lowell Hapder. Mrs. D. B. Banister spent several days with her daughter, Mrs. Ray mond Geissel in Milton, last week. The Methodist Missionary society will meet next Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. J. Crabill. Mrs. Ralph Cannon. The Helix Rod and Gun club will give its 15th annual turkey shoot at Helix, next Friday, November 13 There will be trap and rifle range shooting. The Athena high school foot ball team will play Hermiston high school on the Hermiston grounds, this after noon. Mrs. Hugh- Onstot and family of Walla Walla, spent Sunday in Athe na visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Johnson. Miss Elsa Ringel has changed her address at Oregon State college, Cor vallis, at present it being 2070 Mon roe street. Walter Russell of "The Dalles nephew of Mrs. W. R. Harden and Mrs. Henry Miller visited his aunts Saturday. Mrs. Fred Kershaw, Mrs. Barbara Willaby, Mrs. Minnie Willaby and Mrs. Minnie DePeatt were Pendlctjn visitors last week. Pendleton is offering an interesting program in observance of the day. The pie social announced for last week, will be held this evening at the Christian church. Everyone is invited to attend the social. Mrs. Amanda Mc Arthur " has re turned from Portland, where last week she motored with Mr. and Mrs. E. II. Leonard of Waitsburg. Ralph Gillis was in Athena Monday from his farm near Washtucna, Washington. Ralph is in the mark et for some good work mules. A new tile chimney decorates the Athena Meat Market building. Mose Banister was the boss when it came to assembling the new smokestack. Miss Dorothy Geissel and mother Mrs. Dora Geissel spent Saturday in Walla Walla and Milton, visiting with JUt. and Mrs. Raymond Geissel. J. N. B. Gerking of Bend, Ore gon is (Visiting his son George R. Gerking on his farm west of town. Mr. Gerking expects to spend the winter here Mrs. Brower (Jennamae Read) of Pendleton spent Saturday with her mother Mrs. G. S. Prestbye in this city. Mr. and Mrs.( Brower were in Athena Sunday evening. ' j B. B. Richards returned yesterday from Kelso, Washington, where he was called by the death of his broth er, Walter Richards, who .-, passed away at his home in that' city, Sun day last. . Hope, Idaho Curtis Duffield has come from Portland to reside wth his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F.' Duffield, in Athe na. He was a pupil at Jefferson high school in Portland, and has en rolled in the Freshman class at Athena high . Lee Hiteman of California who is here to spend the winter with his daughter ' Ezrtia was pleasantly sur prised Friday evening when another daughter, Mrs. Wesley Parrott, ar rived from New Hampshire to visit her father- and sister. At Walla Walla Saturday, Wa-Hi trounced the Pendleton Buckaroos by the lop-sided score of 37-0. Fri day at Milton, Mac-Hi and Baker played to a scoreless tie in the East ern Oregon scholastic championship game. ' Mrs. S, F. Sharp returned home Saturday from California, after vis iting for several weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Heinen. Mrs. Sharp has improved in health during her visit in California. Rain interfered with a fishing trip Wednesday which was contemplated by Penn Harris and F. B. Radtke, to the extent that these two disciples of Izaak Walton remained at their respective places of business. Mrs. L. H. Howell of Rosalia, Washington, was here Wednesday to attend the funeral of her brother, the late Gus Schubert. She was ac companied by her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hall, of Steptoe, Washington. Miss Eloise Bergevin a former resident of Athena and vicinity was married to Michael Estes November 3rd in Vancouver, Washington. Both young people are residents of Pen dleton and will make their home there after a short trip to Seattle and Tacoma. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dudley, and Mr. and Mrs. Verne Dudley left by motor Wednesday for Portland, wher 3 they will visit friends for a few days. The brothers, University of Oregon alumni, will be at Eugene today to participate in the university's an nual home-coming event. "Friday" the Fox Terrior owned by Sanford Stone, is said to have developed a dislike for children, and one day this week he nabbed Roland Richards by the leg. Roland was taken to Dr. Cowan's office, where eramlnation revealed that the boy had not been seriously injured. Miss Ethel Geissel, who has been the inspiration for two bride-to-be showers, was the happy recipient of a third Tuesday evening when at the lodge hall the members of Mignon ette Rebekah lodge, of which she is Noble Grand, completely surprised her with, many fine offerings and happy felicitations. Will Campbell is at Bingham Springs, where he is getting out logs which he will use in the construction of a cabin for his summer home at the Springs. With several others, including E. A. Dudley" and M. L. Watts of Athean, Mr. Campbell pur chased a building lot at the Springs several months ago. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. McFadden ar rived home Monday noon after an extended trip to Paris, attending the Legion convention in that city. Mr. and Mrs. McFadden left immediately for Weston and Walla Walla for their children who have stayed in these localities. Barbara in Walla Walla, Billie and Raymond in Wes ton. Mr. and Mrs. McFadden re port a wonderful trip. The O. D'. 0. Club met last Fri day at the home of Mrs. Clifford Walker with fourteen members pres ent. The afternoon was spent with needlework and conversation. Plans were discussed relative to a party to be held after the holidays. At four o'clock the hostess, assisted by Mrs. William Potts served delicious cream ed chicken short cakes, rocks, and coffee. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. II. M. Saulsberry on November 18. Mrs. O. II. Reeder was hostess to the Etude club, Thursday afternoon. Twenty-one members were present. Mrs. Stone and Miss Pearl Ramsay sponsored a patrlotric program: Song by club, Star Spangled Banner; Two piano numbers were given by Miss Zola Keen, followed by several chorus numbers by the entire club. A very dainty lunch was served :n patriotic colors. The rooms were tastefully decorated with huge bask ets of fall flowers. Miss Jessiedonne Dudley entertain ed a number of her friends at Hallowe'en party at her home west of town last Wednesday evening. The rooms were prettily decorated with colorful fall flowers. Orange and black horns and tambourines were in evidence as favors. Most enjoyable games were played and at a late hour delicious refreshments were served by Miss Dudley assisted by her mother. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ameil Schubert was the scene of much merriment last Thursday evening, when a number of school mates of Mrs. Thomas Kirk (Miss LaVone Pittman) entertained in her , honor. The party was in the nature of a bridal shower and came as a sur prise to Miss Ethel Geissel who was a euest and who with Mrs. Kirk re ceived many useful and pretty pres ents. Games were played and en ioved bv those present and delicious refreshments were served by Miss Doris and Lorena Schubert, and Mus Thena Russell. About 15 friend3 of the honorees were present. The J. T. club met at the home of Mrs. Dean Dudley Wednesday af ternoon. A delightful afternoon was spent by the members. Mrs. Sheldon Taylor and Mrs. Fred Gross served delicious ' refreshments. The next meeting of the club will be at the home of Mrs. James Lieuallen at Ad ams, Friday afternoon, November 25. Walter Thompson, who filled the position of prescription clerk at Mc Fadden's Pharmacy, while Mr. Mc Fadden was on his Paris trip, return ed to his home in Portland, Wednes day. Very few people attended, but $20 was tak en in, all of which want to the com pany. A new system of bells has at last been installed in the high school class rooms. A separate bell can now be rung to give a five-minute warning to the typing, manual training and sewing class. ? Assembly The four high school classes of Athena high school met in the school auditorium Friday, November ,4 at 9:00 for the purpose of singing a few songs. Personal Thena Russell was in Walla Wal la Saturday. Dorothy Geissel was in Walla Wal la Saturday. Kathleen Radtke was in Pendle tort Sunday. Ethel Pittman went to Walla Wal la Sunday. The foot ball boys accompanied by Mr. Toole, Mr. Meyers, and some of the high school students attended the foot ball game at Milton between Mac-Hi and Baker. Areta Kirk went to Walla Walla Sunday. Faculty Mr. and Mrs. M. I, Miller enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Baker at a theatre party in Walla Walla Sun day. Miss Bateman spent Sunday in Walla Walla. Miss Brodie spent Sunday in Wal la Walla. Mr. Meyer, Mr. Toole and Mr. Mil ler accompanied the football team to Milton Friday where the champion ship game between Mac-Hi and Bak er was held. The game ended with an 0-0 score. . . Miss Sellars, accompanied by Mrs. Barrett, spent Saturday in Pendleton.
