Jim Jones of Athena and Charles Pinkerton of Weston were in the hunting game on Weston mountain Sunday. Charles Wilson left yesterday for Asotin, Washington, where he will join his uncle, Charles Wilson, on a deer hunt. Mrs. D. II. Nelson and daughter Marie and granddaughter of Pendle ton visited at the W. P. Littlejohn home Sunday. Charles Poffenberger of Weston mountain captured a large br.own bear in a trap, near his mountain home Sunday. Mrs. William Campbell and littl'j grandson Frederick were visitors at the home of Mrs. C. R. Sampels in Milton, Tuesday. Mrs. Ernest Zerba of Waitsburg has been a victim of the flu at the home of her mother, Mrs. Hargett, for the past week. Henry Knight met with a painful accident Sunday, when some stray shot from a hunters gun chanced to pepper his forehead. F. B. Radtke, Ernest Ross, Will Campbell and George Brace are hunt ing on the' breaks of the Umatilla south fork for deer. Mrs. William McLeod has arrived home from Portland where she spent a couple of weeks visiting her daugh ter Miss Gladys McLeod. R. B. McEwen left Wednesday for Portland in a new Chevrolet ear, to visit his family who are spending the winter in the metropolis. Mr. and Mrs. Feron Smith are moving to Pendleton to live. Mrs. Andy Rothrock, mother of Mrs. Smith is also moving to Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Anderson of Se attle are week visitors at the M. L. Watts home. Mrs. Lilla Kirk, Mrs. W. W. Mc pherson, John Kirk and Carl Barker motored, to Walla Walla Wednes day evening to hear Sousa's Band. Rising early Wednesday morning, Louis Stewart was rewarded by wit nessing a beautiful display of the aurora borealis in the northern skies. Miss Lela Schubert who is employ ed at the Peacock Mill in Freewater, spent Saturday evening and Sunday in Athena at the home of h?r par ents. ' Mr. and Mrs. Marcum Anderson of Walla Walla and Mr. and Mrs. Tiepner also of that city spent Sun day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Watts. " The Jolly Twenty club will hold a no-hostess luncheon this . afternoon at Jensen's Tea room, after which they will be guests of Mrs. R. T. Cannon of Walla Walla. Earl Martin has purchased six milk cows from Charles Coffin, and has rented F. B. Woods' barn and pas ture. Mr. Martin will sell cream to a Walla Walla creamery. Mrs. Frank Chamberlain has re ceived announcement ofthe birth of a new nephew, the first son born to her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. St. Clair, of Klamath Falls. E. A. Zerba was here over the week end from Waitsburg, and ac companied Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Mc Pherson out to the Ross Catron farm where Ross, Will, and Ernest enjoy ed a bird hunt. Mrs. C. M. Eager entertained eight little girls, members of her Sunday school class, the Jolly Juniors, last Saturday. Games were played, then dainty refreshments were served to the dainty misses. Mr. and Mrs. Omer Stephens ac companied by Miss Jennamae Read and Miss Edna DeFreece left yester day morning for Portland, where they will attend the W. S. C.-U. of O., football game. Mrs. Lawrence Pinkerton accom panied Mrs. Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Adair to . Potlatch, Idaho, Saturday where Mrs. Gray and Mr. Adair's aged father is ill. Mrs. Pinkerton and Mrs. Adair returned Sunday. ' The W. C. T. U.( held a district convention at the Baptist church Tuesday. . The session lasted through the day and at the noon hour pet luck lunch was served to about 61 delegates and visitors. Bert Ramsey has sold his bird dog "Lee" to a Cendon sportsman. Mr. Ramsey put a price on the dog which he thought was out of reach of a buyer, but the Condon man took "Lee" home with him. Mr. and Mrs. Lorain Shick have returned to Pendleton after spending a couple of waaks in Athena. Lorain has recovered from injuries received in a fall while employed at the Pen dleton Trading company. Ralph Rex of Hollywood, California spent Sunday in Athena, after ac companying the body of his step father George W. Dickson to Walla Walla for buriel. Both Mr. Rex and the deceased were former residents of this community. Dr. A. T. Robinson of Nw York, will deliver lectures on "Prosperity's Law" at the Baptist church in this city next Sunday, Monday and Tues day" October 16, 17, and 18. Admis sion is free. Delbert Crlmmins is critically ill in a Walla Walla hospital and Mrs. Crimmins has just recently left the hospital having underwent a major operation. Mr. and Mrs. Crimmins resided in Athena several years and their friends here will be sorry to hear of their serious illness. Mignonette Rebekah lodge met Tuesday evening. Important busi ness was transacted and it was de cided to hold a social hour after lodge work was over. Mrs. R. A. Thompson, Mrs. Stella Keen and Miss Ethel Geissel were appointed to serve at the meeting of October 25. The Churches The Church of Christ Sunday October 16, 1927. There were 87 present lust Sunday at Bible school. The number has almost doubl ed in four weeks. We are expecting to go to the 100 mark within a couple of Sundays. But 100 persons in Bible school is not enough, the community is large enough to main tain two Sunday schools of 150 or more each. Let every person feel a responsibility and get behind the churches. Preaching at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p. m. Prayer meeting and choir practice on Thursday night of each week. Subject Sunday morning "The Divinity of Christ." Baptist Church Sunday school at 9:45 A. M. Young Peoples meeting at 6:30 P. M. It has been said the Sunday School is the hope of our country; then the young people are the nope of the world. Dr. A. T. Entertainment The freshman class of Athena high school entertained the rest of the classes at a weiner roast at Weston Dam, Wednesday, October 5, 1927. Football and baseball were played un til time for the weiners and buns to be enjoyed. After supper a number remained to play other games, and all these declared it the best weiner roast ever given in Athena high school. Sports This afternoon the Athena football team is nlaying a return game with Walla Walla's second team at Walla Walla. Those that saw the game here know that it will be a good one, so let's all go and cheer them along. Coach Toole will take the following men to Walla Walla: Ray Johnston, Arthur Crowley. Wayne Pittman, El- don Myrick, backfield; Wilford Mil ler, Weldon Bell, Clifford Wood, Lawrence Knight. John Kirk, Roy De Freece and Walter Huffman, line. Faculty Miss Brodie and Miss Bateman were dinner guests at Mr. and Mrs. Toole's last Thursday evening. All the teachers attended the Tea cher's Institute at Pendleton last Thursday and Friday. M. I. Miller and wife, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Toole, spent Satur day in Walla Walla. Grades Mr. Miller's room will present a short Dlay Friday morning in assem bly. Kill Deer Mr. and Mrs. James Cresswell, Mr. and Mrs. Penn Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Lieuallen spent the week end near Meacham, the men spending the time hunting.
