j' Press Paragraphs I 'Her Sister from Paris" Standard Theatre, tomorrow night, Mrs. C. M. Eager was in Walla Wednesday. H. A. Barrett made a trip to Mil ton Sunday. Mrs. M. L. Watts spent Wednes day in Walla Walla. Ralph and Edwin McEwen are at Pine Creek ranch north of Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Sims Dickenson and family were in Walla Walla Sunday, Mrs. Alma Koontz of Portland is a guest at the country home of Mrs. W. P. Willaby. Dr. Cowan who suffered a sprain ed ankle while playing tennis, is able to be around. Mrs. B. B. Richards and Mrs. W. P. Littlejohn were Walla Walla vis itors Monday morning. Miss Lenore McNair left Sunday for a two weeks visit with relatives and friends in Ontario. Little Virginia Eager who has been suffering with a case of meas les is convalescing nicely. F. B. Radtke and son Fred fished with fair success on the Umatilla river, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. Fred Kershaw has returned home from Pullman, Washington where she visited her daughter Fred erica. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Taylor, May 14, 1926, a daughter. The little lady has been given the name Delores G. "Paths to Paradise" At the Standard, Sunday night, Miss Pearl Ramsey is here from LaGrande and is visiting at the home of her parents on Third street. Mr. and Mrs. Art Douglas and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gross are moving from their town homes to their ranches this week. Henry Booher is assisting the Rogers & Goodman mechanical force in assembling the new International harvesters, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight L. Hackett left Monday morning by motor for California points where they will visit for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. 0. 0. Stephens and son Dale and Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Richards and son Roland spent Mon day evening in Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bryan of Pasco, spent Sunday as guests of Mrs. J. C. Baker. Mr. Bryan and Mrs. Baker were school mates in Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Harford of Pendleton were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. McPherson Wednesday. Miss Blanche Johnson and Miss Jennamae Read accompanied by Mrs. Jennie Gross left Wednesday for Portland. They will return Sunday. Mrs. Bert Logsdon, Mrs. H. J. Cunningham, Mrs. W. R. Harden, Mrs. Delbert Crimmins and Miss Gladys McLeod visited the Integrity lodge in Freewater, Tuesday even ing. Mrs. C. T. Mehrer of Scotland, North Dakota, arrived here Tuesday morning and is visiting at the home of her son Victor Hirsch. Mrs. Dill Maloney of Walla Waila who accompanied Mrs. Robert Tharpe also of that city, visited a short time with Mrs. Charles Norris, Mot day. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Zerba re turned from Lebonan, Friday. They having taken Miss Lola Stockstill that far, on her way home to Grants Pass. ' Cleve Stanton who has been em ployed in lone for the past two weeks in preparing farm machinery for harvest, returned to his home Sunday. ' ' Wilford Miller's new dog was saved from death by poison, by Dr. Cowan, Wednesday. Eldon Myrick's dog also got a dose of the poison, and was saved. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Murtha and children drove down to Newberg, where they are guests this week of Mrs. Murtha's mother. They will return home Sunday. Leonard Geissel spent a few days this week in Milton visiting at the home of his brother, Raymond Geis sel. Miss ' Maryiane Miller is also ' visiting at the Geissel home. ' Mrs. Charles Smith and Mrs. Don Wilks and daughter left Sunday for Hood River, where they will visit a couple of weeks with Mrs. Smith's daughter, Mrs. Savannah Davis. Mrs. Julia Hodgen accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Martin McLaugh lin who has been here for a week, to her home in Duncan. Mrs. Hodgen will be gone for about ten days. Chris Uber of Belmont, Washing ton motored to Athena with some friends Monday and visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ace Wagner He returned to his home yesterday Mr. and Mrs. F. S. LeGrow left for Walla Walla Tuesday evening. Mr. LeGrow was forced to undergo another minor operation as a result of the failure of proper healing from a former operation. Mrs. Bert Logsdon and daughter Donna Jean visited in Pendleton Fri day, with Mrs. D. H. Mansfield. Mrs. Rose Miller, Miss Dorothy Geissel and Miss Ethel Geissel accompanied Mrs. Logsdon to Pendleton. The M. E. Missionary society will meet at the home of Mrs. W. 0. Read next Wednesday afternoon. The society extend their thanks to the ladies of the town for their patron age extended the Parcel Post sale. Dale and Gale McLean who have resided with their grandparents and who attended the Athena school re turned to their home in Washtucna, their father and mother having come down for them, going home Monday. Friends of Mrs. C. A. Barrett and little granddaughter Beverley Jean will be glad to welcome them home from Portland this week. They have been in the metropolis since before Christmas and have been spending their time with Miss Areta Barrett, Mrs. Floyd Pinkerton entertained her Sunday school class Tuesday af ternoon at her country home west of Athena. The little folks spent the hours playing games and the hostess served a delicious lunch. The party returned to Athena at about six- thirty in the evening. Ronald Hadley entertained a num ber of his little friends at a party at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. 0. C. Hadley, in the north part of town. Athena and community are bask ing in intermittent sunshine and showers this week, affording per feet growing weather for wheat and other crops. It has been stated by those who should know that with very little more moisture a bumper wheat crop is assured. The Bridge club was charmingly entertained last week at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Michener on Jefferson street ; Two tables were in play, Mrs. H. I. Watts making high score. Mrs. Marion Hansell received the guest prize. The club will meet with Mrs. H. A. Barrett this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Stott and children of Dayton. Washington. spent the week end in Athena at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Lee. Mrs. L. G. Stott who accompanied them down, will remain here for a week. Miss Dorothy Lee returned with her aunt and uncle to Dayton. Mr. and Mrs. Chandler Bloom of Portland were visitors at the R. B. McEwen home Monday. They were en route to Spokane where they will spend the week. They were travel ing by motor. Mr. Bloom is manag er of the offices of the American Steel and Wire Company of Port land. The high school board met last Tuesday evening, and decided to in stall a heating stove and a sink in the domestic science room. Bids will be received for calsomining the high school rooms and for slating the black boards. An additional sewing machine will be purchased for the sewing class. The J. T. club met Wednesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Zeph Lockwood. Refreshments were serv ed by Mrs. Lawrence Pinkerton and Mrs. James Lieuallen. The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. Eugene Schrimpf, when a one o'clock picnic dinner will be enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Cass Cannon and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cannon and family left Saturday for Prineville, - where they will visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Cass Cannon will remain there all summer and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cannon will return to Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cannon will reside in the Cass Cannon home and care for the place during their absence. Three great pictures are booked for showing at the Standard Theatre in the near future. Saturday night, May 29, the return of "The Light of Western Stars" is announced. Wed nesday and Thursday nights, June 2 and 3 Sally O'Neil is coming in her fine big photoplay, "Mike." For Friday and Saturday nights, June 25 and 26 John Barrymore in "The Sea Beast," has been booked. These are the three pictures that are be ing raved over everywhere, and it wa3 only by mere chanre that the Standard has succeeded in booking them for early showings. AT IMMIGRANT SPRINGS Members of the Jolly Twenty-five club with their families spent a very pleasant day last Sunday at Immi grant Springs. In spite of the in clement weather and intermittent showers, almost the entire member ship was present and the spacious Lieuallen cabin made a cozy shelter for the picnickers. Games were play ed in which old and young participat ed and the feature of the day was the bountiful and delicious lunch served from overflowing baskets. The club picnic is an annual affair and one looked forward to . with much pleasurable, anticipation by the members and their families. JOINT MASONIC MEETING A big joint meeting of the Masonic lodges oi Atnena ana Weston was held Saturday evening at Masonic Hall of Dolph lodge in Athena, where initiatory work was held. The Weston lodge attended in a body, and after the lodge session, the Ma sonic brethern repaired to the Athe na Restaurant where' a banquet sup per of 45 covers were spread. Dolph lodge enjoyed the hospitality of the Weston lodge on Friday evening previous to the Athena meeting. RECITAL WEDNESDAY NIGHT The pupils of Miss Hanna's Malen Burnett School of Music class will be heard in recital at high school auditorium, Wednesday evening, be ginning at 8 o'clock. Miss Opal McNichols, who has appeared here be fore in recitals, will give three num bers on the Wednesday evening program. Baptist Church Sunday school at 9:45 a. m. The teaching branch of the church. Preaching and divine worship at 11 m. Topic, "Resurrection Power." The body transient, the Soul Eternal. Junior young people at 5:30 p. m.
