The manual training class has fin I ished lettering the rows of seats in the auditorium. Some thin lumber has been received by the manual training division for the work in the lower grades. This makes it possible for them to make many small articles, which the boys could not do with the thicker lumber, due to the fact that it necessitated too much planing. Geneva Staggs entered the first grade in Miss Sherman's room last Monday. Harold Kirk of the first grade has been seriously ill the past week at the home of his aunt, Mrs. DeFreece. The third and fourth grades had their pictures taken Monday. Mrs. Radtke, Lillian Tompkins and Reca Rothrock visited Miss Lawsnn's room this week. Magic of a Siphon. School Notes. m The people of the United States are sked to raise $86,000,000 to help carrv on the work of the Y. M. C. A. in the Army camps. The High school boys of the U. S. are asked to give J, 000,000 of this amount. Theo Heyden and Frank Embusk of the Pendleton High school visited Athena lust Tuesday and at a meeting of the High school boys all were asked to sign pledge cards to help the Y. M. C. A. Army fund. The pledges ranged from one dollar to five, all of the Athena boys signing a card. Lost Friday evening, Nov. 9th the first of the quarterly recentions wn given in the domestic science room by the Seniors. The room was attract ively decorated with crepe paper in yellow and green, the class colors; red, white and blue bunting and flow ers. The evening was pleasantly spent with games and music. An inter esting feature of the evening was the mock trial with Martha Hutt as plain tiff and Frank Miller as defendant. At 10:80 refreshments consisting of jello, whipped cream, wafers and punch were served. The meeting of the Literary society was held last Friday morning" at elevon o'clock instead of the regular time at 2:30, school being dismissed in the iifternoon on account of Mr. Read's ! funeral. He left three points with his bearers: Man's Esti mate of himself, Life's Plan, Conduct of life. The little folks of Miss Sherman's room are working hard to make their Thanksgiving program a successful one. Different readings and exercises on the spirit of Thanksgiving are be ing prepared and the program as a whole promises to be very interesting. It will be held in Miss Sherman's room on Nov. 22, at 1:80 o'clock.
