R. & N. agent at Adams and will be remembered here as tbe relief agent who held Agent Mothers' plaoe during bis visit to California. John Keen has plaoed an order fcr 100 Italian prune trees with H. H. Hill of the Washington Nnrsery com pany. Mr. Keen will set these trees on his fruit ranch near Milton. His order also inoluded apple, cherry and peaoh trees. Conrad Platzoeder. a well known business man of Pendleton died in that city Sunday morning as tbe result of diabetio gangrene, for the relief of which amputation of one of bis legs was resorted to. He was for years a prominent meat dealer of tbat oity and associated with George Mioger conducted a meat market in tbis city several years ago. Democrats from over tbe oonnly attended tbe democratio banquet at Pendleton Wednesday evening. Tbe banquet was served in tbe Woodmen Eagle ball, atout 250 demoorats sit ting down to tbe spread. Speeches by prominent men of tbe party were made, the prinoipal one being by Walter M. Pieroe, candidate for Unit ed States Senator. The services in the M. Covey, of Crook oounty, candidate for democratio nomination for representative io congress, second Oregon district, was in tbe city yes terday intervewing, tbe voters. Mr. Covey was accompanied to tbe city by Superintendent Swartzlander of tbe Umatilla reservation. Mr. Covey has been superintendent of tbe Warm Springs reservation for a number of years and has bnt recently resigned, holding tbe position now until bis suooesaor is installed into office.
