Ob. it was fleroe, and no day for ball, as the total of 19 hits and 17 errors attest. Hollis wafted 16 Athena batters, while Picard ozoned four of the JJuok arooes, two of tbem being the last un nn ten ninth, but the nifty Athena pitober bad it on the ball just the same, for the sphere was falling at his feet all the time and he gets oreuu for 10 chances without a skip. Athena opened the basket in the second and helped howelf to throe runs, by virtue of a double, a single, three errors, a pass and two stolen bases. DePeatt clouted out the dou ble bingle, sooriog Lieualleu and Uun dy, and scored on Sobaffer's error. Hollis, the man who keeps books for the Pendleton Woolon Mills, but whose address is Spokane, and ia some pitober on tbe side, biffed out a homer in tbe second for Pendleton. In Ath ena's half. Picard was safe when Ward dropped the third strike, stole second, was sacrificed to third by Lieuallen and scored on a passed ball. Pendleton came baok in tbe fourth with two. Ward slashed out a dou ble, HoIHb reached lirst on fielder's choice, Ward acoboriog at third wben DePeatt erred, scored on a wild pitob, Hollis taking seoond, from where he soored wben Sohaffer singled. Clark scored in the fifth and Lien alien came over with his seoond rou in the sixth and Pellaud and Picard tappod tbe register in the seventh. Pendleton came back with three rnna in their half of tbe seventh and tallied another m tbe eigbtb. With tbe soore standing S to 7, Nelson on second and every rooter in Pendleton yelping for a tie-up, Captain Brown passed it up to the pitoher. ncard, with sweater off, began to pot the Enclisb on 'em and Ward and Hollis were struck out in a jiffy. Shaffer was an easy out, Pellaud to Clark, and tbe Millers bad won. Walla Walla is backing her team this year skooknm high and will iun an exoureion train to this city Sunday for the game. Tbe train leaves Wal la Walla at 11 a. m., arriving here at noon. JRetnrning, leaves Atbena at 6 p. m. Some class to this. All same Yellow kid davs. Milton here a week from Sunday, April 30. P;aard wasn't so much pepper on strikeouts Sunday, but tbe way that lad fields bis position is some scien tific He's generally thore in tbe run getting, too. DePeatt was tbe sugar in opportune hitting Snnday, bis smashes negotiat ing four runs, and Pelland's two base bit was timely. Brown had bis wing in workiug or der, and there was no base fllohing going on. At best, tbe life of a Pendleton ball player is anything tut rosy, but when snob a roast as that in tbeMonday edi tion of tbe "Live Wire" filters out through looal fandom it's a real won der that tbe county seat has any team at all. "Bonehead," "Ivorypate" and other oboioe Bowery invectives are burled in chunks and clusters at tbe Pendleton players by the writer, whose ability to give tbe tine details of the game seems to bave been lost in a crabbed grouob. HiB "system" will help bis team out of tbe rut. Nit VS. DAYTON Locals Won From Davton, 8 io 4 Play Here Tomorrow. Tbe High sohool base ball team went up to Dayton last Friday, and came back with the scalps of Dayton Higb, an undefeated team for two years, banging to tbeir belts. Dayton has a fast team, but they could not keep the Athena boys from bitting tb3 hall. The game started off witb great self confidence swelling np in tbe breasts of tbe Dayton team, but when tbe first inning closed with four scores in favor of Athena Higb, tbo result of two clean bits and some costly errors, the Dayton supporters lost some of tbeir enthusiasm. About tbe tbird inning, Dayton managed to get a couple of scores and tbe Atbena boys got busy again and trotted across tbe plate twioe more. Tbe D. H. S. boys again in tbe sixtb oronsed home twice, and Atbena fol lowed tbeir example in the first half of tbe seventh. The game closed witb tha soore at 8 to 4, a very had one for Dayton. However the boys were game losers. Wilson for Athena, pitched a gieat game fanning about 9 and allowing but few bits, while tbe way Athena hit Clancy was something awful. Al most every boy in tbe team got a bit and some of them got two. Fow errors were made by Athena while Dayton made nine. Tbe return game is to bo played here tomorrow, April 22, at tbe ball grounds, and Dayton will try to get even for their disastrous defeat. The game will be called at 2:30, giving everybody a obanoe to oome out and watob tbe looal boys slip another one over tbe Washington ohampioos. Saturday's lineup will be as follows: H. Lieualleu, o; Wilson, p; Sharp, lb; Hill, 20; Owens, ss; Dudlev, 3b; Brotberton, If; Parker, cf; MoEwen, rf; Worthington, Smitb and James, subs. SUMMONS.
