Thos. F. Byan, Grand Master of

AMrs. A. B. Booher arrived borne
Friday evening on the delayed train,
from a six-weeks visit at her child
hood home in Missouri. Mrs. Booher
came by tbe home of her daughter,
Mrs. James Feeler in southern Idaho,
and stopped over there for a couple of
weeks. She reports the famiiy as well
and prospering.
A. M. Gillis dropped in on bis
friends in Athena Saturday morning,
and left Monday. He reports that
fall work is at its height on his Wash
ington farm, near Washtuokna, and
tbat he is making a "hand" bimseir.
Mrs. Gillis, who is almost restored to
her former health, is living in Bitz-
ville again this winter, where the boys
are attending sohool.
The Amoma Bible class will give a
sooial at tbe Baptist oburob tonight,
November 4th. to tbe members and
friends of the Sunday sohool. A
short program has been ' arranged.
Games will be played and refresh
ments served. At a'reoent meeting
of the olass the following oftioers were
eleoted: President, Miss Vera Gross;

The third quarterly meeting of the
conference for theAthena and Water
man circuit of tbe Free Methodist
church will be held at Waterman
school house November 18 to 20. Sir
vices Friday and Saturday evenings at
8 o'clock; Sunday morning at 11 and
again in tbe evening at 7:30. Bev

Umatilla county is a distinctly ag
ricultural community. In suoh a, com
munity it is both right and fitting tbat
farmer should represent farmers at
Salem.
The only candidate for State Senat

But there has been an impression
in some people's minds tbat Mr, Bur
gess is not the right man for the office
beoause it was only comparatively re
cently that he filed a formal statement

sistently voted for Geer right through

was forcing Charley Fulton oh; the
lecislature: Burgess headed a revolt
and continued to push the name of

that Geer was defeated, so in a last
dasnerate effort to nave the day for
the people Mr. Burcess voted lor Har
vev W. Scott.
