A party of about twenty young peo ple will leave in the morning for We naha springs, to spend the 4tb at that popular resort. The party will be ohaparoned by Mrs. DoPeatt and Miss Lizzie Molntyre. Stanfield and Pilot Book Will have speoial trains from Pendleton on July 4th. 1 Athena is interested in the Pilot Book oelebration from the fact that her ball team and band are to partic ipate in the big event at that plaoe. Harvesting has commenced in -the south part of the county. The barley Crop is ripe ' and the wheat in that section nearly ready for the harvester. The Pilot Rook oonntry will harvest an excellent orop of barley this year. Hiram' Knight,' who has been affliot with appendicitis, is reooveriog and is able to be out. While giving due oredit to other standard makes of typewriters, Maurice is decidedly partial to the many good features of the "Under wood. Mrs. Winsbip and two little daugh ters left yesterday for Spokane, where they will visit relatives for several days. Mrs. Winsbip will also visit her daughter. East Oregonian : James Cox, a former well known Umatilla oonnty ball player, who formerly performed for the Athena Yellow Kids and later for Pendleton in the days when the Umatilla oonnty league was in its glory but who is now located in Spo kane, is the guest of local friends. Pendleton and ; Weston ball teams clash for the last time this season on the Weston grounds Sunday afternoon. Weston won the pennant in the Blue Mountain league. Athena's - defeat of Pendleton in the 1? inning game had the result of making it easy sled ding for the Mountaineers in their rush to viotory. Swaggart is president, is negotiating an exchange of land locat ed on Birob creek, south of Pendleton, for an apartment house and other property in Portland. Should the deal go through, wbioh it probably will, the property valuation involved will be about $40,000. The land -was purchased several years ago and has been in cultivation under the super viBion of Frank Swaggart. Curious Tombstone. On a srravestone in the parish churchyard of Great Yarmouth. Eng land, there is sculptured the unusual representation of a clown seated in a tub. which is being drawn down a riv er by two swans. Beneath this stone lies one of the-many victims who were drowned years ago by the collapse of an iron suspension bridge on which they had crowded to see a clown pass underneath in the manner described.
