Increasing Grazing Allotment.
Tbe Forest Service has recommended
tbat tbe number of cattle and horses
allowed to graze upon tbe Blue Moun
tains (W) National Forest in tbe State
of Oregon, daring tbe season 1008, be
increased from 16.000 to 17,900 head
and tbe number of sheep from 150.000
to 152,500 bead. This forest has re
cently been divided into three admini
strative nnits, and the inorease in the
nnm ber of bead of stock to graze on
tbe-range tliis year was made to Dermit

form4r users of the forest.
Young Todd Reported Drowned.
Troy Todd, a young man of Pendle
ton, who came into publio notice a
coupl of weeks ago, when arrested on
a charge of cattle stealing and who

east of Pendleton, Saturday. Todd is

Sheep Have Meningitis.
G. Z. lakes, one of tbe pioneer Pa
louse farmers, baa recently lost several

college veterinary snrgeon, calls spinal
menipgitis. Mr. loses has about 50
sheep in bis flock but upon examination
it has been fouud that less than half a
dozen i.ro afflicted with the disease.
The farmer claims tbis is tho first time

Mr. E. M. Murphy, the most famous
