WHAT IS PE-RU-NA?
Is It a Catarrh Remedy, or a Tonic, or Is
It Both? .
Some people call Feruna a great tonic. Others refer to Peruna as a great
catarrh remedy.
Which of these people are right? Ia it more proper to call Teruna a catarrh
remedy than to call it a tonic? -
Our reply is, that Peruna is both a tonic tmd,. a catarrh remedy. Indeed,
there can be no effectual catarrh renieuy that is not also a tonic.
In order to thoroughly relieve any case of catarrh, a remedy must not only
have a specific action on the mucouB membranes affected by the catarrh, but it

What brings about the end of books?
Is It fire, water, worms? As every
ship launched is bound to be wrecked,
every theater to be burned, the finis of
the book Is Its reduction to ashes.
What became of the Alexandrian li
brary? Did the Saracens burn It In
C40? There Is this question asked:
Wa9 there any library at Alexandria
containing 700,000 books? Gibbon In
clines to the opinion that there was no
such library. Canon Taylor Insists
that if there had been a library it was
burned In the time of Julius Caesar.
Tradition seems to Indicate, however,
that there was a library in the sera
peum, by no means a large collection,
but whether destroyed by Theophilus
or Theodoslus Is not known. It looks
as If the charge brought against the
Arabs rested on no foundation. Explo
rations of Alexandria In 1805-0(5 show
no traces of the serapeum. The sea
port of Egypt was built on a damp
foundation,' and granting that there
was. a library, if not destroyed by fire,
then the papyri might have suffered
from decay due to water. Books of
to-day taken to India, to the Southern
States and to the W:est Indies perish
through mildew. ,

who have been distinguished for their

of the law. Always a student, he added
to his scholarly attainments a profound
desire to use the truths he discovered
for the benefit of his country. He per
mitted no prejudice to come between
his judgment and his decision.
He was only 32 years of age when
he was appointed one of the Justices of
the Supreme Court of the United State
In 1811, an office he continued to hold
until his death, In 1845. It Is difficult
to understand to-day the situation with
which Story had to deal. The Jaw
was In a state of chaos, and it Is due to
his efforts that a major part of It hag
been placed In the form In which It Is
to-day. He was one of the men who
acted for the Interests of his country
instead of self-interest, and whom, lu
consequence, she honors as one of her
great sons.

That mood does not last long. Contempt
gives way to admiration. There Is some
thing marvelous in the way this lord
of , lace and ribbon dominates the wom
en the royal highness as well as the
spoilt actress. '

becomes serious ; he stares at. her royal
highness, studying her form from head
to foot; he smites his brow, and cries
