Judd Teeters, who was arrested some weeks ago for the larceny of a gelding, yesterday morning pleaded guilty to the charge. He will receive sentence today. Mr. Weber has relieved C. F. Shu bert, the operator at the O. R. & N. statiou in this city. Mr. Weber is a musician, being a band man of ex perience. The sidewalks in the residence dis tricts of the city have been covered with ice the past two days and pedes trains have found it difficult to keep from falling. The danoe at Weston Friday night was attended by a number of young people from Athena. LaBraohe Bros, furnished the music and a good time is reported. R. A. Watson, of the Portland Ore gonian, has accepted the position of managing editor of the Pendleton Trib une, the duties of which he will as sume January 29. Benjamin Grubbe, who died at his home near Wilbur station last week, was a pioneer settler. He crossed the plains in 1851. Iu 1881 he settled on his homestead near Wilbur. John R, Murphy, a pioneer resident of Pendleton, died Friday after a few day's illness with gripp. The funeral was held Saturday from the Catholic church in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Betts return ed Saturday evening from a visit of several weeks with relatives and friends in New York City and Brook lyn. They report a very pleasant time. Mrs. A. J. . Wagner has returned home from Vancouver, B. C, where she has been attending her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Ervin, who has been ser iously ilL Mrs. Ervin is now recov ering. Milton Eagle: Rev. John Evans, formerly pastor of the Milton M. E. church, but now pastor at Athena, was here Monday en route to Lew iston, Idaho, where he expects to in vest in land. The diphtheria quarantine which has been in force on the public schools at Milton and Freewater, for the past two weeks was yesterday lifted and the schools resumed with practically a full attendance. S "To the Unwilling Skeptic," is said to be one of the most powerful sermons delivered from the pulpit. This is the subject Evangelist Burton will preach his sermon from at the Christian church, Friday evening. Toe next attraction of importance that will appear at the Athena opera house is announced for the evening of March 5, when William's colored trouo of Dixie Jubilee Sincere will bd- pear for a one night engagement. L. J. Robinson is in the city from Richland, the new town on the Col umbia, above Kennnwick! Wash. Mr. Robinson is favorably impressed with the future prospects of Rich land ana says tne plaoe is growing. More than 6000 acres of . land have been subscribed to the Umatilla Water Users' association at Echo. The com mittee has accepted and signed the articles of incorporation and the papers have been sent to seoretary of state Dun bar. C. H. Sherman, the meat market man is engaged in moving bis brick smoke house from the rear of the Stahl bnildincr to his nresent location. It is rather a particular job, the brick walls being held together with frame work, and the building is rolled on skids. The condition of Mrs. Willis Bash, who is afflicted with consumption, has readied the crisis stage and death is now only a matter of a little while. All that is possible is being done by sorrowing friends, but the end is not far off. The family have the deepest sympathy of the community. Milton Eagle: W. T. Shaw, a well known farmer of the Hudson Bay district, was in Milton yesterday on business connected with the Milton and Freewater & Hudson Bay Irriga tion Co. Mr. Shaw believes in winter irrigation and states that the soil in his neighborhood will produce three good crops of alfalfa hay without any other moisture. Pendleton Tribune : Saturday after noon a committee representing the Umatilla County Woolgrowers' Asso ciation, consisting of Herbert Boylen, Dan P. Smythe, Donald Ross and A. Smith, appeared before the county court and requested the removal of Stock Inspector John Bean from office. The committee stated that it was the desire, that Mr. Bean be re moved because of his age and poor eye sight, alleging that he is therefore unable to attend to the duties of the office satisfactorily. Miss Lulu Robey is visiting her aunts, Mrs. E. A. Dudley and Mrs. W. M. Peterson, in this city. Miss Robey has recently returned from an ocean voyage of 14 months duration, in company with her mother and stepfather, Capt, Geo. Seeley, of the steamship, Puwaka, which has put mto Port Townsend for the winter. Miss Robey visited South Africa, saw the wonders of Australia, and on the' return trip stopped at the Hawaiian islands. Her home is with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mc Donald, iu Walla Walla. East Oregonian : . Before County Judge Bean yesterday Edna Campbell, a school girl from the Fruitdale dis trict, near the state line, was exam ined for being unruly. The charge against the girl was made by Mrs. Flora Jones, teacher. As a result of the affair the district has become con siderably exoited, and it is evident that the teacher herself is not escaping critioism. No specific charge was made against the girl, and after being questioned by the county judge, she was directed to return to the school and resume her studies. The January term of circuit court convened yesterday morning. In the matter of the state of Oregon vs. C. P. Davis, the'defendant asked for a con tinuance from Wednesday, the time originally set for trial to Monday of next week. Davis wants time to fur ther examine the books and records of the county. The East Oregonian says it is evident that this case will be bitterly fought as it is rumored the defense will attempt to impeach the expert who made the report of the shortage. A force of men employed by the defendant, is now going through the books, checking them on their own account John Peymeyer, who has beeu liv ing with Alan E. West, a bachelor, two miles south of Milton, was arrest ed Saturday for larceny, charged with stealing .coal from the Sunnyside school' December 16, 1905. W. S. Mayberry, principal of the school, had been missing coal for some time, aud charged his pupils to keep a sharp lookout for the culprit, and as a result bis arrest followed. He was granted a trial Saturday before Justice of the Peace Miller, but refused to plead. The justice considered this sufficient evidence of his guilt and fined . him $30 and cost, amounting to $48.85, which be refused to pay.
