Preston, the manager, purchased 30,000 bushels paying 70 cents for all, with the exception of one lot which passed into his hands at 70. Mrs. McDonald, of Walla Walla and Mr. and Mrs. Anson Wood took Sunday dinner at the Dudley home. Homer Beathe, a former popular Wes ton boy but now employed in the job department of the Seattle Trade Reg ister, was in the city yesterday, visiting the Pbess family. With his wife and boy, Homer is visiting his parents in Weston. . Grandma Fountain has returned to the home of her daughter. Mrs. Frank Mansfield, after an extended stay with another daughter, Mrs. John Harris, in Weston. While absent, Mrs. Fountain celebrated her 82nd birthday. She is hale and hearty and her many friends hope may celebrate a score more happy birthdays. Weston has several cases of typhoid fever, and Dr. M. V. Turley, a promin ent physician of that city, calls attention through the columns of the Leader to the unsanitary condition of the town. Dr. Turley points out the source of the disease as coming from water or the air, or both. He advises that drinking water be boiled, the city thoroughly cleaned, and each household be supplied with a formaldehyde generator. A. B. McEwen returned yesterday morning from San Francisco where he attended the Knights Templar conclave. Like many others, Mr. McEwen became nearly prostrated with heat during the big parade and was confined to his hotel for a couple of days. He found no sec tion of California to compare with Uma tilla county and says the majority of farmers down there are encumbered with debts. Mrs. J. R. Owens will take measures for tailor made suits.
