The republi can state convention was held in this city yesterday and wa one of the most largely attended and enthusiastic politi cal gatherings ever held in the state. The convention adjourned at 7:30. Gov ernor McBride was turned down hard and his commission resolution was rele gated to oblivion by a vote of 890 to 270. The nomination of A. h. Meade was a foregone conclusion. He is conceded to be a BtroDg man and will easily be elect ed governor of the great state of Wash ington. The ticket on the whole is most satis factory to all. Many of the nominees were chosoo by acclamation. After the convention many of the visiting politi ticians were banqueted and a general symposium was held. Eugene Lor ton, editor of the Walla Walla Union, was secretary of the con vention. . The ticket is as follows: Governor E. A. Meade of Belling ham. Lieutenant Governor Chas. E. Coon of Jefferson. This is done in the harvesting of 1000 acres. County Seat Contest. , Citizens of Union have filed a re " straining order a?ainat County Clork J. II. Miiuaugh, forbidding him to place the names of Union and LaGrande on the oMciiil ballot for a vote on county .', a M removal. TLe courts will be called to puss upon the order immediately, as the ballots must be printed soon. The petitions presented to the county court by LaGrande asking for the renoval are said to contain at least 1,500 fictiti ous names and names not on the regis tration hook, hence the restraining order from the taxpayers. Good Races The prospects for the spring race meeting of the Walla Walla County Fuir association. May 25, 2G, 27 and 28, are extremely flattering. Walla Walla is conceded by all horsemen to have the fastest track on the circuit, in fact, it is even better than last year when it turn ed out to be a marvel of speed. Already 200 horses have been entered for the 4 days' meet, and many of thorn are al ready in Walla Walla working out for the event. A Secret Method.
