Hnnting'oii and Blocli of Athena, and Davis Church and Wilaon, of Milton, were in Weston Wed tiesday evening to assist in conferring the Part Masters degree on B. B. Hall, W. M. el-ct of Weston lodge, No 65 A. V. & A. M. Monday morning as the hack returned from the depot where it had gone to meet the early train, the driver, Mr. Martin, ran off the grade in, the dark ness and upset the hack. The two in mates were not hurt but the driver got one of his legs severely bruised. Neither team or carriage was ranch damaged. The inhabitants of school district No. 1)6 enjoyed a very pleasant treat on Christmas Eve, consisting of a very beautiful Christmas tree procured and gotten up bv uur very efficient teacher, Miss Lola Brace. The program con sisted of songs, dialogues, recitations, etc, and it is needless to say that, the evening's entertainment reflected great crodit upon the talented ability of the teacher, in training her many pupils. It wan a great treat and very enjoyable affair to both young and old. A more than usually fatal epidemic struck the numerous canine population of Weeton Wednesday night. Six dead dogs lying around in. different places in dicated that the promiscuous poieoner had been getting in his work. Some of the dogs, probably the . most ' of them, were nuisances, some were well behaved stay-at-home dogs the pets of the fa in I lies to which they bolongpd, and the ' person or persons that did .this indis criminate polsanlng is open to severe 1 criticism. . f(. . The "war of '12" ended 82 years ago. There are onlv three nma pensioners of that war still living. , But there are 3000 widows drawing pensions as the wives of veterans of that war. The Pendleton Republican of last week published quite a rretty romance about a soldier from the Walla Walla barracks, desertlnn because he fell in v love with a Weston maiden, and tiring of being bunted over two states, finally gave himself up, with the intention of marrying. his oharmer after he has served his time. Mr. Kees will return home either Saturday or Sun day in time to again resume his duties on Monday. ; 'Mrs. William Townsend is suffering severely from nervous prostration caused by grief over the death of her son, which occurred week before last. The Preston Estate. ' In the probate court the final account of L. C. Preston, as administrator of the estate of William Preston, has been ap proved, and the affairs of the state wound up. The cash proceeds to be distributed among the heirs are about $3000, balf of which goes to the widow. I he remain der is divided among the children. Dur ing the proceedings L. 0. Preston, 0. N.
