I the Coquillc River and v ON UP FREIGHT with K erosene (5S POKT ORFORD REPORT i) (From Tort Orford Tribune.) The mail schedule between Bandon and Port Orford has again been chunged, and Contractor Davidson r.ow make the round trip in his auto. This will cause the mail to reach Port Orford and the Rogue river 24 hours earlier than it has been. Although advertised but a day and a half, a large crowd assembled at the Agate Carnival pavillion last Saturday evening to witness a wrest ling contest between Eddie O'Conncll of Portland, and M. G. Lutscy, Curry county's wrestling cheese maker. The matehe gave every evidence of being on the square, and was well worth seeing for 'those who care for the game, and had it been known fur ther ahead of time that O'Connell would be here, many more would have attended. The first fall went to O'Connell in .'11 minutes in a head-lock that made Lutscy quit. The second fall went an hour and 17 minutes and as it was growing late and the dancers wanted the floor, the referee called all bets o'r on the match and gave the decision to O'Connell.Although Lutscy was on top at the time it was evident that he was tiring and would loose in the end any how. But it is fair to him to Ray that he went into the match without train ing, while his oppoincnt came here in .he pink of condition, and many of Lutsey's friends think with proper training he could master O'Connell. The match was clean and very fast and scientific at times and much in terest will be taken should the pair meet again. O'Connell, who is one of the cleverest wrestlers in the world, claims never to have met defeat at his weight, 115 pounds. C. II. Pearse complains in the Trib une that the wharf is in danger of being overloaded. Here are a few gems from F. B. Tiehenor's weekly column in the Trib une: It's a wise cow that knows its own butter. The breath of suspicion is usually scented with cloves. It isn't what a man owes but what ho pays that keeps him poor. A man here lies who was too wise, (Or thought ho was) to advertise; He's very dead as you may see His business is more dead than he. J. II. Upton has the following to say in the Tribune about matters of current interest. Governor West is inclined to favor a proposition, since Congress must provide by law for the dispositions of the 3,300,000 of railroad land lately in controversy between the govern ment and the S. P. Co., after said company hud been paid $2.50 per acre that the state be permitted to pay the money and take over the land in be half of the irreducible school fund. Such a scheme would work out all right if wo could always have a West or a Chamberlain to protect the peo ple's interest in this great grant But we have a Senator Mcser and a Senator Day capable of a midnight conspiracy looking to the defeat of the government in the then pending litigation of the railroad company. And our governor seems in his com placency inclined to swing the state back into its old time partisan rut. We had lacking 7,000,000 acres of land and 500,000 acres in a second grant besides multiplied thousands of acres of swamp and tide land which has been practically frittered away for a song wherefore the annual dis tribution of the proceeds of the sales has never reached $2 per enrolled pupil and the same old farce is due to be enacted next month. M(ll Vwh GOLD BEACH GOSSIi (From the Gold Beach Globe) Mrs. Wesley Miller went to Grant's Pass last week to investigate the ru mor that Mr. Miller had departed for parts unknown and left his automo bile in a garage there with a For Sale notice tacked on it. A quiet wedding took place here Saturday morning in which the prin cipal actors were Bill Winnegar and Dona Bodgcrs with Justice of the Peace Stafford binding the Bargain. When this couple came hero from Bandon some two weeks ago in their open boat, the Globe made mention of the fact and that Bill was accom panied by a woman. This they took exception to and took the editor to task for not sayipg Mr. and Mrs Winegar. A. Aubry, once more in a small row boat ran the rapids of the treacher ous Rogue river, between Grant's Pass and its mouth, arrived here last Fri day. Mr. Aubrey is an expert boatman as well as a fisheman. He made the trip without accident of any kind, bringing with him from the Devil's Stairs, C. H. Pittinger ,who two days previously had received a broken leg R. J. Long, black sand expert and former deputy sheriff of Los Angeles, county, California, is awaiting trial in Coquille unable to furnish bonds, according to reports brought to this city by county officials yesterday af ternoon. Long was arrested in Port land by Deputy Sheriff Laird early this week, charged with obtaaining money on worthless drafts issued by himseir. Long operated in this city for sev eral weeks endeavoring to get local capital interested in a machine for separating gold from black sand. He told acquaintances here that he had considerable property in Los Angeles county that he could mortgage and ob tain the money to complete the ma chine, but that this would take too much time. Before leaving again, however, he isued several checks a mounting to nearly two hundred dol lurs which were cashed by local bust uess men who learned later that Long had no funds in the bank. After his arrest it is stated that hid father wired the county officials hat lie was sending money to cover his sou's indebtedness, but this nus not yet been received.
