Harry Crain Vo'v. of Or« aor«n«»nr< VOLUME XXIX Denmark Doings Big Lumber Carriers Will be Here in Two or Three Weeks. Captain C. J. Fosen has been in Bandon a few days looking into conditions and getting acquainted. Captain Fosen will have command of the new Grace Dollar, the new steel vessel of the Dollar fleet, that is to come to this harbor, The new vessel will be here in two or three weeks, according to Capt Fosen and will have a carrying capacity of 1.200,000 feet of lumber and will carry 800,000 feet of lumber, draw ing 12 feet of water. The Grace Dollar will be 230 feet in length, will have a 40 foot beam and 16 feet depth of hold. She will have 1000 horse power engine, tbu- giving her plenty of power for most any kind of sea. She will be the biggest boat that ever crossed in over the Coquille River Bar and will be a great ad dition to the fine fleet of vessels visiting this harbor, John Hak is Killed by Log. John Hak, head rigging slinger at Smith-Powers Camp i on South Coos River, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a log. He was horribly crushed about the head and body. It seems that a log being hauled in caught on another log and before it could be telaeased, it jerked the second log around so that it struck Hak. Hak’s body was brought down last evening, Chauncy Clark, time keeper at the camp accompanying it. Hak was 28 or 30 years old and bad been employed ia the local camps for some time. He was well liked by all. Of rather »mall stat ure, he had a hobby of always wearing a stiff hat. Hak was born a French Canadian and is said to have been born near Winnipeg. He has no relatives here but Coroner Wilson is trying to locate them near Winnipeg.—Coos Bay Times. Hub Clothing & Shoe Co. Expan ds. The Hub Clothing <St Shoe Co. with stores at Bandon and Marsh field is continuing to expand their business by putting in a store at Myrtle Point. The new store is to be a big one from the start and they expect to do a big volume of busi ness. J. T. Sullivan manager of the Bandon store says that tne com pany did a much larger business both at Bandon and Marshfield during 1912 than in any previous year in the history of the company and the year 1913 so far promises to be still another record breaker and w*th the new store at Myrtle Point, tee possibilities for business will be increased. -—— it Pays. At the urgent request of the ad vertising department we reprint this bit of logic from an unknown source: “When a duck lays an egg she just waddles off as if nothing had happened. “When a hen lays an egg there's a whale of a noise. “The hen advertises; hence the demand for hen’s eggs instead of duck’s eggs.’’—Cleveland Pion Dealer. NUMBER 13 BANDON, OREGON I Mrs Clapshaw, Mrs. Chenoweth and Misses Edna Capps, and Emma Sydnam were visitors at Denmark school last Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Foreman, the Denmark teacher, visited at Port Orford from Friday evening till Monday morn ing. The tiip was made by stage. She reports Port Orford to be a very social little town, aud mentions particularly the courteous behavior of the young people of the village. Wonder if the absence of the “liquor element’’ ceuld have anything to do with the moral tone oi a community enough to make it noticeable to an unbiased stranger. We wonder. Mr. Jas. White w is giving his new automobile an airing Sunday, The splendid condition of the roads makes autoing a delight, and every body wanted a ride. Mr. E. J. Bement transacted business in Langlois Tuesday. A Valentine post office at public school, and a dancing party at Mr. Chenoweth’s Hall for the young people in the evening is the program for Denmark Feb. 14th. Mr. E. J. Bement has purchased a 120 acres of land joining his hill farm. The land was bought from Mr. Olson who is removing from Langlois to California. I even the young palm trees ate froz brown, but no wonder, when it I oz one and one-fourth inches thick . Of course the people here do n< like anything said about the hard freeze in this sunny southern Cal fornia but it won’t hurt Bandon to know it. It is fun to see trow the many real estate boosters tr v to make everything appear alright, but they don’t seem very anxious to take the new comets out for an auto ride to show them the beautiful lemon groves, where he can make bfg money on land they are ask $1000 an acre for. The Bandon Post G. A. R. and W. R. C. attended the ser vice in a body as is their usual custom. The Boy Scouts of Bandon did their newly organized troop great credit by assembling at the church door in open order form and salut ing the G. A R. and W. R.
