Bandon Recorder The guns of the Philadelphia were all loaded, and us they became hot they were discharged, and their shots took effect in the town. The conflagration cast a red glare on the castle, mosques and minarets, on the batteries and on the shipping in the harbor, whose crews had been so startl«?d by the sail- dimness of the attack that not a shot had been fired to stay IL No less a naval hero than Admiral Nelson prou»iunc««d it "the most daring act of the age." The hero of Algiers was killed In a "duel by Commodore Barron on March 22. 1820, and the whole country mourn- ed one of the greatest sea fighters the American navy has ever had.—Chicago News. BE DUTY We have been realizing this more fully during the past twenty ears and have been hedging suffrage about, with restrictions ns to residence, a to registry, as to many other things that may keep the duty within the selected group to whom it ideally belongs. There is danger in multiplying the numbers of this group. Statistics will show vou that one in every three of those entitled to vote FAILS 10 E X ERCIS E T HE I’R 1V i I .EG E. Massachusetts, with (¡41,000 iit - ii upon the registry books, nt th? Inst election voted only 441,000 of them. In this large margin of those who might vote, but don’t, there rests the peril to the republic.. Yet we cannot close our eyes to the lungers of making the number too small. I know that the PATRIOTISM OF WOMEN IS DEEPER, as it is moro silent, than that of men. '1 heirs are not the prizes, but the sacrifices, of devotion. Theirs are not the rewards, but the suf ferings.
