Old Dry«. The rond to Baltimore is over the lowest <»f three tlonthiK bridges which have been thrown across the Schtiy 1 kill river in the neigliborhood of I’hila delphla. The view on passing thia river, which Is about 274» yards wide, is beautiful. The banks on each ride are high and for many miles above af ford the most delightful situations < r villas. A very elegant one. laid out in English taste, is seen on passing th“* river just above the bridge. Adjoining to it are public gardens ¡.nd a h.mse of entertainment with several good rooms, to w’hfi h the citizens of f'hila delpLihi resort in great numbers during tlie summer seasons. The douting bridges are form <1 of large trees, which tire placed hi tin* water transversely and are cliaim d lo gether. Beams are lhen laid le:igH: w'jiys upon these aud the whole board ed over to render the w’ay convonieiiC for passengers. On each side there is a railing. When very heavy < arriages go across these bridges they sink a few inches below the surface 0« the water, but lhe passage» is by no means dangerous. They are kept in an <*ven direction across the river by means of chains and anchors in different parts and are «also strongly s ‘cured on both shores Over that part of the river where the channel lies they are so contrived that a piece can be removed to allow vessels to pass through.
