S. Basket Ball quintet won their second victory fiom North Bend this year, last Fri day night in the Bandon Opera House. The home team did good work and although the visitors were exceptionally rough., our boys smoth ered them by the score of 23 to to. Every man played the game and the visitors were completely shut out in the first half—-score 9 to o in faver B. H. S. Scroggins made 3 baskets, Strang 1, and Galliei one free throw, but the visitors did not seem to have the basket located yet and never got a thing. In the second half North Bend seemed to begin to realize that it was time they were getting in the game or the result would be a shut out. They played for dear life with the one motive to win in view and succeeded in making five baskets— Newkirk 4, Hansen t. But our boys did some classy team work which completely outdid anything the visi tors could show. The result of this half was. one basket to Scroggins, 3 to Strang, 2 to Gallier, and two free throws made by Gallier, making 14 to to in this half. Last Wednesday night North Bend lost to Myrtle Point, on Thurs day to Coquille, and on Friday night to Bandon, but all were reasonably close games they say. If the B. H. S. boys win from Co quille next Friday, March 17th, they will be tied with Myrtle Point for Capt. John W. Scares, of Spok ane, representative of one of the largest canning companies in th<- United States is in Bandon looking over the situation and says this is an ideal location for a cannery, and that there is no better country any where than Coos county foi the es tablishment of canneries. Hi- also says that he believes there will be ten or fifteen canneries in this immediate country within the next five or six years. Col. Seares is putting in the can- neiv at Myrtle Point and will put in one at Marshfield and says Bandon is equally as good a location as eith •r of the others for a big cannery. The cannery company held a meet - ing last night and subscribed $2.500 in stock and telegraphed this morn ing for a cannery promoter to come and sell the rest of the stock. It is the preseut intention to sell $3,000 or $4,000 worth of stock yet. and it is expected that work on the con struction of the plant will start soon.
