And what does It all mean? We wonder. Is this a Democracy? How long has it been our? What is a Democ racy, anyway ? Let’s consult Webster DEMOCRACY — Goveranifent by the people; a form of govern, ment in which the supreme power is retained by the people and exercised either directly or indirectly through a system o f representation and delegated au thority periodically renewed. In Oregon through the init iative and referendum the people have a hand in govern ing But that authority is not exercised very thoroughly. What will you, Mr. Voter, have to say about what the legislature passes on during the coming session o f that body? But we are wandering. In that great document which at least an attempt is being made to relegate to "horse and bug gy days" we do not find anv mention Of democracy. But we do find mention o f a republic. And why not some great leader to lead us and show us what a republic is? Here is what VVebeter says: iRellu bile — Commonwealth, the state. Again In 1st Corinthians 12:28 where "helps” refers to members who render assistance. — God helps ’ those | woo help themselves. The facts are: Portland General Electric Company has been the largest distributor o f power generated by the mtghtv $60.000.000 federal dam! And— PGE distributes Bonneville power to the average family at a louer price than PUDs charge for Bonneville power.
