wives of two of the most distin­
guished novelists have both written
rookery books. The two women
were Mrs. George Meredith and Mrs.
Joseph Conrad. In each case the
distinguished husband wrote a pref­
ace to the book. For some reason,
however, Mrs. Meredith's cook book
was never published, though the
manuscript was long for sale at a
London booksellers.
