» Lilly Festival at Brookings Over July Brookings, Oregon, holds its fourth annual Lily Festival on July 2, 3 and 4. The Lily Parade, the only one of its kind in the v o rld , will be held on Ju ly 3. Many are the attractio n s to e n te rta in the visitor. Besides the parade, the conducted tours through the lily fields and tours to three state parks in the area, will be the firew orks display and the carnival on the Midway. Given in conjunction w ith the Lily Festival will be the annual Flow er Show and A rt Exhibit by Plymouth Model Plane Contest A t Salem Sunday << An air arm ada of hundreds of n ¡nature planes will descend on Salem next week as model enthus iasts from throughout Oregon gather at W oodburn A irport Sun day, July 2, and W aters Ball Park Ju ly 9 to compete in the O re gon Plymouth Model Plane con test. Activity gets underw ay a t 9 a. m. Sunday when free flight gas and rubber powered planes take to the air. Control line events, in cluding stunt, speed, flying scale and je t are scheduled for 9 a. m. July 9. No admission charge is levied fo r any of the events, and the public is invited. According to Elm er Roth, Acad emy of Model A eronautics Con test director for the event, a flock of time and speed records may be broken by the kid pilots, with many expected to clock almost 150 miles per hour. C ontestants will be competing fo r 75 trophies and m edals; two all expense paid trips to the F ourth International Model Plane contest to be held later this year in D etroit, and a $300 university ■h larship to be used at a school of the w inner's choice. z One of the expense-paid trips will t>e aw arded to a junior con testan t, up to 16 years of age; the second to a senior class winner, 16 Summer the Azalea Garden club, opening a t 2 p. m. Sunday, July 2, at the high school gymnasium. The Azalea G arden club puts on one of the most outstanding flower shows and a rt exhibits held in the state. The exhibit is featu rin g the works of well-known west coast artists, among them Jam es K roeter of Portland, Eugene Ben net of M edford, Hal E. Bishop, McConnell, Platz and many others representing Oregon. M eet ing whs called to order by Presi dent Dora Combest, with a ro;l call by Secretary Daisy Nassen. A fter prelim inary business had been discussed and the d ifferen t com m ittee chairmen had given th e ir reports, the election of o ffi cers took place. The following officers were elected for the coming y ear: Hazel Henry, president; Irene MeCas- land, first vice p resid en t; Daisy Nassen, second vice president; Ida Blue, secretary and Lida Mil ler, treasurer. Executive board members selected w ere Marie White, Edith Farlien and Amy Hussey. Edith Farlien was named publicity chairman. At the time all the committee chairm en had not been appointed, but this will be taken care of at the next busi ness meeting. The questions of jo in t in stalla tion with the Legion and the probability of floats in the two coming parades were discussed. Immediately following ad jo u rn ment the ladies invited the Post of Gady, E verett, Stebbins, W il comrades to join them for pie and liams, A nderson, Knight and Mc coffee.
