Annacl Mother's Tea The annual M other’s Tea will he held in the gymnasium of the Illinois Valley High school a t 2:00 p.m., April 17. Invitations are ex tended to every m other of a high school student. — o — Assembly Program Tuesday m orning, April 11, at th e K erby Grade school gym na sium , Bill K ester, Student Body vice-president, introduced Vinson Brown, explorer and naturalist, to the stu d en ts of Illinois Valley High school and Kerby Grade school. Mr. Brown told o f his thrilling experience® in Panam a and Costa Rica. One incident was when a tiger, commonly known here as the South American jaguer, came in to his hut one night. A nother in terestin g event was when he w itnessed a knife fig h t betw een two natives fo r the love of a b eau tifu l girl. A large percentage of the high school and g rade school students enjoyed the sto ry of his experi ences very much. Bill Rauber to Receive Naval Scholarship An honor was bestowed upon the high school and community thia week by the announcem ent of the selection of Bill Rauber, Illi nois Valley High school senior, to receive a naval scholarship in the Naval Reserve O fficers’ T raining corp® beginning in Septem ber, 1950. Bill is one of the 20 selected from Oregon to receive this training. The cost of tuition, fees and textbooks will be paid by the gov ernm ent, necessary uniform® will be provided by th e governm ent, and students will receive retain er pay fo r other expense® during college at the rate of $600 per year. Normailly, students will atten d college fo r four years. W hile in college, they may take any course leading to a baccalaureate or higher degree, but m ust include therein 24 sem ester hours or the equivalent q u a rte r hours of naval science plus certain minimum re quirem ents in m athem atics, physics and English. Upon graduation, the student m ust accept a commission as en sign, U.S.N., or second lieutenant, U j S.M.C., if qualified fo r the available billets. Bill plans to attend Oregon S tate college, one of the N.R.O.T.C. colleges. N.R.O.T.C. candidates from civilian sources a re selected in fo u r stages as described below : F irs t: A nation-wide aptitude te st will be given to all applicants. The test will be adm inistered at v a r i o u s exam ination centers throughout the country by the Naval Exam ining Section of the College E ntrance Exam ination board. S eco n d: Physical exam inations and interview s will be given at designated offices of Naval O fficer Procurem ent. At the m eeting of the Cave Junction city council Monday night, April 10, three ordinances were passed: The first provides, in effect, that no minors will be allowed in taverns located in the city. Ac companying parents does not allow an exception; minora are not al lowed in taverns under any cir The directors of the Bank of Illinois Valley have received word from the San Francisco office of the Federal Depositors Insurance corporation th a t every e ffo rt will be m ade to service the bank’s application for F.D.I.C. affiliation in the shortest possible time. The investigator’s report is to be pro cessed in the San Francisco office, then forw arded to W ashington, D.C., fo r final approval. The o r ganizers state that they expect to receive approval within a week or ten days. The Federal Reserve Rank of San Francisco has stated th a t the hank’s affiliation with the Federal Reserve system can take place with the present capi talization a fte r the application for Federal Depositors Insurance has been approved. In the m eantime, the finance com m ittee is redoubling its efforts to get in the money for the last few shares of stock subscribed, so th a t the charter can he issued im m ediately F.D.I.C. approval is received. Although well over three-fourtih® of the capital, su r plus and guaranty fund have been |\aid in, Oregon law provide® that thia money m ust be paid in en tirely and on deposit before the ch a rte r can he issued. The board states th a t most of the subscriptions not yet collected consist of one and two share pledges, representing a large num ber of people to be contacted, but a small percentage of funds yet to be collected. Hagg of ReedviUe. one of O regon’s best known daary- men, will head a state-w ide Farm ers-for-M orse com m ittee, it was announced T hursday a t Morse- for-S enator headquarters in P o rt land. Hagg, who operates Broadlarwn Farm s, one of the largest and most highly mechanized dairy farm s in the state, has long been a leader in the industry. Hagg is vice-president o f Dairy Cooperative asso ciatio n ; president of the O regon Dairy Breeders' association; director o f Consoli dated Dairy Products Company: director o f Dairy M anufacturer's’ association; director of N ational Milk Producers’ federation. The third specifies th a t there shall be no bulk gasoline plants located in the city, and lim its gasoline storage tanks to 3,000 gallons.
