Did You Know? Illin o is V a lle y C ham ber o f C o m m e rc e A c tiv itie s The regular monthly meeting of the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce was held October 13th at Todelope cafe. This was one of the best meetings of the year. We had as our guests for the evening the faculty of the Kerby schools. Principal speaker was L. C. Mof fitt, county school superintendent. Mr. Hagen, principal of Kerby Hi., Mr. Johpson, principal of Kerby elementary, Mr. Henneberry, music teacher, and Coaches Pope and Peters. All were enthusiastic over the fine group of local youngsters and asked that we, the adults of the Valley, get behind our children and give them real support toward a successful school year. Mr. Moffitt reported that a new school bus for Kerby had been delivered and is now in use. He also stated that additional land for the new high school has been purchased ad joining that already donated for this purpose, making a total of 13 acres. He displayed the prelim inary plans for the high school building, and also the plans for the school building to be construct ed soon at O’Brien. Garland Benge, advisor of the senior class, announced they are sponsoring a big school carnival next Tuesday evening, October 26. He urged all to attend and show the kids that we are behind them. Our next meeting, to be held November 10, will be the most im portant meeting the chamber has ever had. At that time we will receive our charter, designating that we are now a member of the C. of C. of U. S. A gala affair is being planned, with Mrs. Valeria Rauber as chairman. Tentative plans for the evening include en tertainment, dinner and dancing. Watch for further details. It was called to the attention of the chamber that numerous viola tions of the speed and safety laws have been noted in connection with our local school zone and school busses. In the past, we have us ually blamed these incidents on out-of-state tourists, but these last violations have definitely been by local people. It was decided to send a strong letter to the State Police, asking for a patrol car to be assigned to this Valley to re mind the people that the laws must be obeyed. All of us should re member that it is much better to lose a few seconds rather than en danger the lives and safety of our children. Remember, money spent in the Valley makes the Valley grow. ------------ o .. • TIMBER TO LUMBER" PICTURES TO BE SHOWN AT LECION HALL Gene Pulley recently took pic tures “Timber to Lumber” incolor in the woods and at the Moore mill at O’Brien and showed them to a very large audience last Fri day at the O’Brien school house which was packed to capacity. Due to the popularity of the pic ture and so many requests, Mr. Pulley will present them again in the American Legion hall Friday evening, October 29th at 8 o’clock. Ray Hall has made some very at tractive posters for the show which will be placed in business houses. There is no admission charge for this showing and the pictures are well worth seeing. WHAT THE LEGION AUXILIARY IS DOING The Legion Auxiliary met Wed nesday and a sanitation film was shown with lectures given by Dr. Osgood, Harry Williams and Paul Hawen.
