in Stitches!
A t t h e F r i d a y N ig h t S o c ia l,
Jeb Crowell had the audience in
atitchea — doing a take-off on the
blustering character who belittles
everybody and everything th a t isn’t
from his own home town.
In our town, for instance: Some
folks like band concerts, others
don’t — some fam ilies serve beer
with dinner, others, butterm ilk —
and as for politics, th ere’s plenty of
healthy disagreem ent.
Well, we can laugh a t th a t so rt
of ch aracter because from w here
I sit, A m ericans are ju s t th e op­
posite. We like to boast a b it p e r­
haps, about th e p a in t job on the
new barn, o r th e m issus’ style of
cooking - b u t we a re n ’t in to leran t
of people who don’t thin k o r a c t
exactly the same w ay we do.
B u t when i t comes to denying
folks the rig h t to thin k o r a c t as
they choose. . . no, w e’re like you
— we don’t believe in it, w hether it
goes fo r serving beer, o r speaking
one’s mind on public affairs.
