ILLINOIS VALLEY NEWS NEW RESIDENCES GO UP IN THE VALLEY Villair Logging Trucks On Way to Mill Mr. and Mrs. George Scott of Scott’s Market, have under construc tion a new residence in the rear of their market. When completed they will make their home there. It is a four-room bungalow and will be modern in all respects. -------------- o-------------- NEW RESIDENCE ON OLD TAKILMA ROAD Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rexford have completed a new residence just across " the bride over the Easy branch of the Illinois river on the old Takilma road. The residence is a modern bungalow, and Mr. and Mrs. Rexford are now domiciled in their new home. --------------o-------------- ROD & GUN CLUB ACTIVE ORGANIZATION By Wm. J. McLean Here is a brief history of the Kerby Rod and Gun Club, Inc. The club wa:> formed in January, 1935 and the membership that year reached a total of 116. In 1940 the membership reached a high of 286. James D. Hogue was president during 1940 and Sam Bunch is our new president for 1941, Nat Woolley is the new vice president, Fred Linkhart, treasurer; William J. McLean, secretary. Direc tors are Ken Robinson, Blake Miller, T. H. Baumberger, Ralph Huber and Clem Sauer. The Club organized a drive to re stock the lakes and streams in the Il linois River and over one-half mil lion fingerlings have been placed i? Logging operation in the Illinois valley offer a man-sized problem in the woods. Spring and fall rains soften the ground making it difficult for logging trucks to operate during this season, but the Villair trucks seem to be able to operate and keep the mill busy in any kind of weather. The above picture shows some of bhe Villair Lum ber company’s truiks loaded on their way to the mill. The company is now working on orders for National De fense and expects to soon start cutting their annual supply of sugar pine. our streams and lakes by the Oregon State Game Commission, assisted by the U. S. Forest Service, who trans ported the fish to our mountain lakes by means of pack trains. A summary of the fish planted dur ing 1940 is as follows: Deer Creek—17,680 Rainbow fin gerlings 2 in. to 3'2 in; 32,760 Rain bow fingerlings, 1 Va in. to 3‘-2 in. Sucker Creek — 18,720 Rainbow fingerlings 2 in. to .‘l.Vz in. Cave Creek—28,080 Rainbow fin gerlings 2 in. to 3’a in. West Fork Illinois—22,898 Steel head fingerlings 1 >2 in. to 3 in.; 27,887 Steelhead fingerlings 2 in. to 3 in. Grayback Creek—18,244 Steelhead fingerlings 2 in. to 3 in. Applegate River—42,570 Steelhead fingerlings 2 in. to 3 in. Babyfoot Lake — 2,500 Eastern brook fingerling 2% in. Bolan Lake — 5,000 Easternbrook fingerling 2% in Ta nnen Lake—2,500 Eastern brook fingerling 2% in. About 2000 pheasants have been released in the Illinois Valley in the liAt five years, 145 birds being re leased during 1940. The Club has been active in spon soring a conservation program in the Illinois Valley and we believe a good foundation has been laid, perhaps the results are not apparent but it takes years to rebuild our wildlife resources once they are let run down. We need the active support of every one in the Illinois Valley, as our organized efforts are the sure way to make our program successful.
