AMUSEMENTS t Seldom does an author portray u 'h an Important character as that of a Catholic priest, and hare It meet with approval from the clergy. Dut thli Is Just what has happened to Kdward E. Hose, author of "Th Rtwry," which will be seen at the Grant Pass opera house next Wed t.lay evening. Via "The Rosary" Mr. Rose hat drawn a character of Rev. Brian Kolly, a Catholic priest, who Inter feres In domestic troubles between man and wife, and eventually showi the unlimited amount of good that can be done by a priest, not of con ventional stage character, but ft real man, a big man of faith, strength and conviction. The character has been endorsod by the clergy all over the country, and It Is said to be the strongest of the kind presented on the American stage. The character will be portrayed by Harrison J. Terry, an exceptional art ist, who goes through his work con vlnMng the audience that he has mastered tne author's conception of the role. The theme of the play concerns a man and a woman happily marrlod. The are surrounded with every lux i.i r of wealth and happiness. But ihe husband Is an unbeliever, an rthelst without faith of any kind. There Is a Jarring note in the house hold harmony. No one notices It until a friend of the husband cornea, Father Brian iielly, a priest of the modern world with a deep Insight Into human nature and a divine love for his fellowman. And when trouble comes, when the home Is wrecked, and husbaud and wife are brcught down to the depths of suf fering agony, it Is the priest who re stores both Into the sunlight of hope and love. While we haven't any definite knowledge at hand, we believe, that there Is at least forty million feet less box lumber available for boxes at the mills this year than there was a rear ago. This in face of the fact that there was quite a large Increase In the production of box lumber this year, owing to the opening up of the Weed road. We shall be very much surprised if there Is any very heavy Increase In the output of lumber available that can be reached by rail In the next two years, as we cannot see where there Is going to be a very, large In crease In the production of white pine other than out on this railroad. There seems to be no other rail roads developing now that go Into a white pine territory other than this one, and white pine makes such a perfect box lumber that fruit ship pers prefer it to any other material for that purpose. While we have not ourselves trav ersed the country west of Grants Pass, the government reports are a sure enough indication that there is an immense forest in that locality that is available, and we are confi dent that the markets will absorb It as quickly as It can possibly be de veloped and manufactured. We wish you success In the enter prise, as it will mean a great deal to us to be able to get our factory run ning full capacity, at the earliest possible time. Kindly keep up advised of any new developments in the matter. Tours truly, WARREN & LAUDEN. The table of promised tonnage of ( lumber as given at the outset of this OKDEIt SUIM1TZ TO TRIAL.
