We sit together In our soul's high window, dearest, That looks upon the street of hu man life, Within, our happy home; without, the world thou fearest. Within, our peace; w ithout, men's angry strife. i Look out! See how strange eyes look here upon us. How poor they thiuk our dwelling and now cheap; They dream not of our godlike Joys and honors, The rich, ripe field of blessing that ' we reap. ... So sit we by the soul's sweet fireside, fairest; The days go by as light winds kiss the flowers. They seek through all earth's sweet est, and earth's rarest, A love so sweet, a love so rare as ours. Phillips Brooks. Fruit Candy. Wet two cups of sugar with two tablespoonfuls of water and boil until very thick. Stir in now a box of seeded and picked over raisins and when these are well coated with the candy pour the mixture Into buttered tins and mark off Into bars. Bonnets for Babies. They are making bonnets for ba bies which are counterparts of motor bonnets worn by grown-ups, and the little dears are charming peeping from under the coquettish brims. Dress Shields. Shields for sleeves of thin summer gowns should be edged with a nar row Valenciennes lace, or you may use shields with the outside faced with silk. As the shields will show plainly through a thin gown, it Is well to give attention to the selec tion. Useless Worry. Probably half the things we have worried over are the things which never happened. It seems ridiculous that grown up persons who are sup posed to have fully developed men tal apparatuses should be so Illogical as most of us are. Do you remember the time you worried last year when you feared William was going to meet with business losses, and all the worry was for nothing, because) he came through all right? Then one day you worried yourself into a headache when little Billy went fish ing. You feared he would be drown ed, and when he came home with the biggest string of ilsh he had ever caught you were too ill to rejoice with him, and then the day oh, well, there Is no use enumerating 'them now; they are gone; killed by worry. Of course, you are sorry now when you see the folly of It, but , the question is, how many of us lenrn by experience, and how many of us go on in the same old way worrying over things which we fear will happen, and most of which never do. Escnllopeil Onions. Peel six onions; boil in cold water until tender; butter a shallow dish and arrange the onions on It; add a cup of milk and a tablespoonful of butter; sprinkle over a scant half-cup of cracker crumbs; put pieces of but ter the size of a cherry on top of each onion; bake slowly about an hour. Watch (lie Cut. Keep your eye on the pet cat If you have one. If not, then your neighbor may have one which visits yon occasionally. It may cause the disappearance of many a chick you can not account for. It takes ' a pretty sharp eye to catch them at it sometimes. The only remedy we ever found effective In such cases is to kill the cat. It Is impossible to break them of the habit once they get It. Agricultural Epitomist. Dutch Apple Pudding. One egg, one cup milk, one pint flour, two teaspoons baking powder, two tablespoons butter, saltspoon of salt. Mix and spread dough one-half Inch thick on buttered cake tin. Cut pared and cored apples Into eighths and press into the dough. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake. Serve with cream and sugar. Too High I'p. A lady visiting Colorado suffered greatly from the elevation. One day, after an attack of breathtossness, she sighed out: "I am suro I shall dlo." "Will you go to heaven If you die?" Inquired her little son anxious ly. "I hope so, dear." The small boy burst Into tears. "Oh, . mother, dear," he sobbed, "don't go to heaven; you could never stand the altitude." .. Skipping Rope. Skipping the rope or Jumping the rope as we commonly -say In this country, Is a great fad In London, where all ages, even eldeny men and women are enthusiastic devotees of the skipping rope. Fat persons are skipping In hopes of ridding themselves of some of their adipose tissue, the thin ones hoping to gain weight, the elderly to gain agility and other persons because the prac tice Is reputed to bo good for, the liver. Gymnasiums are filled with hopeful persons skipping ropes, each for an Individual reason. (cTiiiau Meat Croquettes. The frlcndella or German meat croquette Is a fine way to prepare meat. Two pounds of beef, half a pound of pork chops; chop the moat and mix it well with one beaten egg, two cups of bread crumbs which have been soaked In water until soft, sea son with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
