Held, of Portland, Is In the city the guest of lier son, F. W. Rolf. s Frank Colvlg came up from Galice Monday for a few days' visit with home foiks. Mr. and Mrs. It. A. Ilarned and baby, of LaGrande, Ore., arrived here Sunday to visit relatives and friends. Mrs. Jlariiod was formerly Miss Graco Good, of this city. Elmer Wertz Is again able to be about the streets, after bis recent hard spell of sickness. Master Edwin Dobzlen and sister, MIbs Helen, left Monday evening for a short outing at Seaside. E. D. Thompson went to Wood ville Monday on business, returning to this city the same day. Iiert Dysert and Clay Ramsey, two Wolf Creek miners, were In our city Wednesday on business. Mrs. II. A. Perkins, who has been In our city for the past week taking medical treatment, returned Wednes day to her home at Wolf creek. Walter Whittlesey arrived here from the east Tuesday for a few days visit with his cousin, Mrs. If. C. Norton. Royal Whltmore returned Tues day from his trip to Portland and the fair. Mrs. J. H. Simons went to Galice Tuesday to visit her sister, Mrs. Lewis. Mrs. Geo. Riddle and Miss Minnie Tuffs went to Portland Monday even ing to attend Eastern Star Grand lodge. J. H. Williams and mother, Mrs. E. A. Williams, and Miss Maude, came up from the mill at Reuben Saturday. Dr. Flanagan went to Portland Tuesday to attend Grand Command er's Cathedral Class of Scottish Rite Masons. Mrs. S. Hoyt and daughter, Mrs. Theresa Wlillams, left Monday for Portland to visit Mrs. Hoyt's daugh ter, Mrs. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cheshire re turned Monday from Portland where they took in all the sights at the Rose Festival. Mrs. W. W. Webb,left Wednesday for her home at Mercedes, Tei. Mrs. Webb has spent he past several months here with her father, I. C. Spencer, who has been 111 with can cer. Mrs. M. E. Moore and daughters, Misses LI.zIe and Nellie, and son, Charles, accompanied by Miss Hazel Gillette and brother, Carrol, and Miss Mae Nipper, left Tuesday for Cow Creek canyon, where they will enjoy camp life for two weeks. While at work on one of the cul verts on D street Tuesday morning, George Snow bad the misfortune to have one of the large cement forms fall on his hand, driving a nail into the second finger of his left hand to the bone, and disabling him for several days. Owen Thomas, of Salem, was in our city .Monday from his Pickett Creek mine, leaving for Salem In the evening. When asked if he naa any gold to show for his work he dis played enough of the yellow metal to satisfy even the most exacting. Monday morning the Courier force enjoyed a box of fine, large straw berries from the Savage Bros.' ranch. The fruit was unusually large and unexcelled in flavor. Last week Mrs. J. H. Ahlf also left a box of splendid, large berries, which were much larger than we usually see. N. C. Westerfield, manager of the agents of the Columbia Life, spent a few days here last week looking in to the business of tnat organization. A. B. Cornell returned Wednesday from Portland and Salem, where he had been on a business and pleasure trip.
